i've seen this on discovery channel HD theatre before. it's not all the time, but i think it had been on at least half of the planet earth episodes that i recorded on the DVR. that's the way i would describe it--a periodic pulse or sharpening. i think this is more a function of the signal.

did you notice it on any other channels? i've only noticed it on discovery.

4280 is fixed, 5080 is removable.
You missed the 42" vs 50" part.

42" = fixed
50" = removable

Could any of you be so kind to post a link for the specification of the 50" US version? I am thinking of getting one in the US when visiting my family in Seattle and ship it with DHL back to Europe (Price is less than half at your side of the atlantic.. again ;-)).

But of course, differences in specifications might stop this plan (if it does not support PAL etc).

Pretty please?

Good comparison! I'll be going from the 58PX700U to the 6010. September will be here before you know it. What's funny is that there are typically price drops in September. If only the 6010 would drope in price before it came out!

So enough of this HD content, how's it handling standard def!

I'm debating on the Onkyo 805 and 875, the latter having the Reon chip in it since the wife and I watch so much SD TV that Cox is unlikely to provide in HD anytime soon. If the Pio can create as nice a picture as the Reon can I can save a little cash on the receiver side. Obviously, there is no comparison to make yet as the 875 isn't released, but I can start rethinking my plan on the TV Purchase.

If someone with one of these new sets and a HD player with a reon chip in wants to play some standard DVDs and compare the two with the HD player doing the work and then with the TV doing the work, I would be much obliged at the comparison

Well, considering how well the 7th generation panels handled SD, I'd say it's hardly a concern.

All,

I called Roman at Invision to order a 5070, and he totally surprised me by saying he also had the 5080 in stock. So I've ordered one. Let's hope it's as great as everyone is saying!

I have no idea what you're talking about....the 7th Gen did not do a very good job of handling SD at all......

It was steller with HD signals...but soso with SD signals.

Why do you think Pioneer made a point of talking about how big a deal the new ASIC video processor was for improving SD signals.

Basheer

P.S. I'm not trying to diverge or start an argument here...I just really strongly disagree with your point of view.

I think what he (Basheer) was referring to is that the 5070, compared to most Plasma and LCD's, is near the top when it comes to SD PQ. This doesn't mean that it provides excellent PQ, but better than most.

Are the 6080's available yet?

Of course it did. It handles SD sources significantly better than most other consumer displays. I'm not sure where you are getting off suggesting otherwise.

Now, granted, I speak only in terms of video games (low resolution) and DVD playback not television, but I found the results to be fantastic. I feel that it does a slightly better job than even my Sony CRT.

What do you feel does a better job? I've spent a great deal of time drawing detailed comparisons between all sorts of flat panel and RPTV models dating from 2005 to 2007 and have found that 7th generation to be among the best on the consumer end.

So if you remove the speaker from the bottom of the 5080 can you lower the display on the stand so no space remains where the speaker was .this is an issue with me since my stand where my 433cmx is placed is at perfect viewing level and Im used to it after four years.Im definitely upgrading to the 5080 but have my own speakers and dont want my 5080 high up on a stand because I removed a bottom speaker.

SD varies so much that you can't generalize as to how good or bad it looks. The only generalization is that it varies a lot. One consideration is that if it looked bad on your Pioneer, then it would probably look worst on other sets.

With Brighthouse cable, my SD analog channels for channels like SciFi and USA use to be pretty bad. Earlier this year, they must have changed something as they now look very good.

Don't forget networkable for Home Media Gallery function to stream media from any PC in your home via a network and better color filter.

The intent of the original question is whether the REON will improve television SD on this display, and the suggestion of testing an upscaling DVD with the REON seems like a good way to answer it. Arguing about how good the SD is without it doesn't really answer the question.

I too am interested in the answer as I am also considering the exact same issues (Onkyo 805 vs 875 with these new 8G displays).

Me too. I'm currently using a 1080p Panasonic 700u display and I'm seeing yellow trails all over.

I'm hoping that the new Pioneer technology will be more suitable for my seemingly sensitive eyes.

So when will the FD150 be availabele?
Has anyone heard of a commercial version, a CMX508, for example. I know it's not in the press releases, but I'd assume that Pio would incorporate the same technology in a CMX model.
No precise or even semi-precise dating, but early 2008 sounds about right for their commercial panels (just a semi-educated guess).

Pioneer traditionally releases their commercial/industrial models at least a few months after their consumer models have been introduced. Their philosophy being that with the higher usage demands placed upon these commercial panels, they want to be sure any kinks have been discovered and worked out in the consumer versions before they release their pro models.

EDIT: I think d-nice (pioneer aficionado with good contacts) even posted one time or another that the commercial panels won't see the light of day until sometime in 2008. I'm not sure if he ever specified beyond that; spring 2008, summer 2008, etc.
