quick question for the 150 owners out there...does it also have the silver edges on the bezel as the 6010 does or does it have the normal elite black?

From the picture below, it looks like it has the normal elite black.

At this point I assumed something was wrong with my Series3 TiVo, but then I put in the Blu-ray HQV disc and discovered the same thing. I got really worried for a second till I remember I had the orbiter on. So I turned it off and of course all was well.
I feel stupid and better all at the same time.

At least you didn't use the Position mode to shift the image (like I did when I had my Avia disk in). Later I reset it, so I corrected myself.

The biggest issue IMO with the FIOS DVR is the lack of dual streaming. I always liked the ability to stream 2 live channels. With the FIOS you can do only one.
...

Thanks for the comparison, Ken.

I have an Echostar PIP622. It has the ability to record three live channels - two via satellite and one over the air. This while simultaneously watching two different earlier recorded shows (or any of the three being currently recorded.)

Occasionally we actually take advantage of this ability.

Mine, either. I'm also using a PowerShot, an old A95. It was a great camera when it was new; but it never really performed the same after being sent in to Canon to have a tiny piece of lint removed from inside the body. I digress...your TV and speaker combination looks gorgeous. Enjoy!

I just wall-mounted my 150FD yesterday. We spent a couple of days with a cardboard mockup. We ended up putting the base of the TV at 29.5" off the floor. That puts the center of the screen at 36.5" off the floor. Our eye height is about 30", which is slightly below the center of the screen. My viewing distance is 6-7 feet, the balance of the seats are 8-12 feet away.

I think we would have been satisfied with the set somewhat higher and maybe even lower. I would think in a huge room or in a home theater that mounting higher would give a more theatrical feel.

We do not have the set tilted.

Thanks Zues, I just hope my Seller and Pioneer feel the same way. Initially, it really didn't bother me at all...I believed most of them might look that way, using flash. But I'm finding that's not true at all; the other bezels I'm seeing now are beautiful in all conditions. The set's less than two months old, and knowing all those little hairlines are there is beginning to weigh on me a bit.

Here in the Benelux, it's apparently still more than a month away to get to see the full HDs. I did a roundtrip to a few stores and I was once again immensely impressed when I saw the 508XD (= Elite) compared to some other sets (without changing settings, I know difficult to draw conclusions). I saw it compared to the new Panasonic full HD. It blew the Panny away in terms of black level, colors and reflexion (despite the Panny having some kind of anti-reflective treatment). Pioneer is simply light years ahead.

In another store I saw different screens (Samsung M86, a philips PLasma and the Panasonic Full HD) playing a Phill Collins DVD (Farewell tour, I think). There was an awfull lot of noise on the screens, it was almost unwatchable. I asked to connect the Pioneer 508XD also to the DVD (it was playing HD stuff) and the sales rep fell completely of his chair. He hadn't tried it yet. But all noise was almost entirely gone ... amazing!! I don't have many doubts left about the Pio's processing capabilities!

While I may look like a new member, I've spent quite a lot of time lurking on this site and it's helped me a great deal in learning about HDTV and well..technology in general.

Through research for my first real HDTV I came to the conclusion that LCD was a better choice for a first HDTV even though I had a pretty firm grasp of all the new advantages that other HDTV types offer and I decided to by a Toshiba REGZA 42HL67 for $1055.00 which I calibrated using settings recommended on this website, and while I've been very happy with my purchase an opportunity for an upgrade just appeared when my cousin who got an olevia 537H saw my Toshiba and wanted to buy it.

I think you already know why typing I'm my first post in this thread and will just get to the point.(EVEN THOUGH I PLAN TO READ ALL OF THIS THREAD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!)

I have only two questions regarding the PDP 4280...

1. Is there any way to get the TV to output a 1080P signal with my computer like I'm doing currently with my Toshiba? (with the DVI to HDMI cable).

2. How good is the SD picture on the Pioneer KURO's?(I have a Wii which I plan to game on alot this winter and the Toshiba while awesome for HD just isn't cutting it for me...)

Anyways, thanks in advance for info you might be able to give me...

If you can get great blacks and great shadow detail from some material, it simply shows you the display is capable of that. When all of a sudden you don't see that with a given movie, it's more than likely the transfer.

Thank you Ken Ross. So, it may well be the film's fault? Most of my old Star Trek movies look pretty good, even with the SD player I use. But I popped in The Last Emperor last night and figured that would look great, too...and I wanted to retch! It's horrible! I didn't know DVD quality could vary so much. And unfortunately, it looks like it isn't available in either HD or Blu-ray. If you happen to have The Last Emperor, could you please take a peek and give me your impression?

I have a 4280; but can't help with the 1080p question. Mine is occasionally connected via SVGA which is fine for me, since all I do with it is listen to CDs and watch my G-Force screensaver. For SD PQ...digital SD is soft; but watchable, like a few other people have said. I watch much less SD TV these days. Generally, Encore! is the only SD I watch on my 4280, and then only if they're movies I really want to see. SD aside, the HD shines, and I'm loving my 4280.

I don't feel like reading through 100 pages to find this out so I will ask. What's the difference between Elite and non-Elite?

That was a pretty swift response!!, thanks for the info...but I'm definitely gonna wait it out and see if any other people can offer me more advice(2 heads are better than 1!!...or in this particular forum maybe...12).

Thanks for the advice donottosmeok.

Hey guys, I never had a Plasma or LCD TV before, though being thinking about one and comparing brands for at least one year... Finally decided to buy a 4280 Pio - the 50" is just too big for my apartment and at a 42" size, the 1080p doesn't really matter. I'm not a game's guy and will be watching cable programming (upgrade my RCN box to a HD box), and DVD's on a "upconverting to 1080p" Panasonic DVD player/recorder.
Was curious too how is the SD picture quality on a 4280, would be cool if somebody has any pics to post. To be realistic, there more SD channels than HD so this would be really helpful. Thanks.

Went to the Pio www site to register my new 150FD and the 110FD and 150FD are not yet listed in that section.

More tidbits. Neither my wife nor I can hear the fans at all. (Even with no audio playing.) This with our ears within inches of the side of the set.

I'm sure typical of all plasmas, but if you hold your hand about 3"-5" from the screen you can feel the warmth.

Nominal power draw was 470-490 Watts with no audio. My 1200 VA UPS couldn't cut it on battery - even with only the TV as a load and the UPS is rated at 670 Watts. My 1000VA 600 Watt (IIRC) was able to carry the set. Presumably the battery on the 1200VA unit is going. I've ordered a new 1500VA unit from B & H.

Worth a try while you wait.

Can you tell me, does Verion offer Cablecards with their FIOs video implementation? We're wired for internet in my town...but we're awaiting local regulatory approval for FIOs TV.

Thanks for any help.

I prefer HDMI, because you can get all the calibration features that you can not get via VGA.
The TV doesn't output a signal, so I'm guessing you are asking if the TV can take a 1080p signal. Yes it can if you set it to 1920x1080 24hz or 60hz I believe. I do 24hz on my 1140HD.

2. Can't answer this question. But the feedback has been positive so far.

1. Any fan noise it puts out - are there fan(s)? Are they audible from 6 feet away when the room is quiet?

2. so called "plasma buzz", I assume this is only a problem at high altitudes such as Denver.

3. My apartment is not air conditioned. I live in the Bay Area and we generally don't need it, but on hot days, it gets really hot. The room in which my PC sits, for example, is noticably hotter when the PC is on. Is this an issue wthe 6010.

4. Finally, what about the electric bill compared w/say LCD? Its not a trivial consideration here.

5. How effective is the anti-glare coating on this set compared to previous models?

1-2. Depends on room acoustics. Probably will not bother you.

3. Yes. It puts out more heat than your PC.

4. It will be higher.

5. Its better than my old CRT RPTV.

Verizon does offer a cable card option for FiOS ($3.99 / month). However, you will probably get different answers from different CS reps. Twice I was told "No" ... third time was "Yes, we do". If you're area is just getting wired, they may not have them available at the time. We got ours about 4 months later ... still waiting for them to get the new "M" cards (one card will replace the two I now have in my Tivo) ... saving me $3.99 / month. BTW - this question probably should have been posted in the FiOS forum.

Thanks for any help.

Definitely DVI to HDMI. I went from an Acer (DVI) to a Dell (VGA) laptop and
I am very disappointed that the much faster (core2duo vs Pentium-M) dell
laptop doesn't look as good on my TV via VGA. The colours and picture detail
are so much better via DVI/HDMI out than it does for VGA.

Unless you have to purchase a set this year, there is great news about next year's models, both from Pioneer and Panasonic. They have been redesigned to use almost fifty percent less power, and will therefore also give off far less heat.

Yep, and then the year after that they will have 30,000 to 1 contrast ratios, then the year after that they will have 2160p. There is always something around the corner.

IMO, the Kuro black level "jump" is enough (for me) to jump into the market right now. I've been waiting 2 - 3 years to upgrade from my Panny RPTV and, until now, I didn't see any significant reason to get into the market. But with the new blacks, the 1.3 capability and 1080p, I think now is a good time. Now all I have to do is scrounge together some coin.....
