I think once I move I'll get my panel (5010) pro calibrated. It will have been two years since I put in D-Nice's settings to start my panel off.

I just put in D-Nice's SM offsets into my 9 month old 5010 and I'm very impressed. I thought I had it tweaked pretty well only using AVCHD. Wish I would have not been so hesitant.

D-Nice, If your still following this thread, thank you for the great work.

Had my 6010 calibrated by UMR last week......

Great experience and a lot of information shared. The results were a huge improvement especially the whites which are quite "whiter" than before; colors now "pop" as well.

The Kuro's are still "kings" of black and with this calibration they are now even better.....

My thanks to Jeff for his gracious style and the many stories he shared while performing the steps.

Thanks for your calibration report. I've included it in the flat panel (Post#2) list that's linked at the bottom of my post.

See that; thanks...

But the Link states "UMR for Duck4" and should be Duck05

Jeff is going to email me the "soft copy" of the report. The improvements in the overall black level (pre-cal at .010 and post cal at .005) along with the adjustments to the white balance pushed the full on full off contrast ratio from pre-cal 2577 to post cal 7000.

These Kuro's are amazing and given this panel is over 2 years old it now looks better than new. Watching HD TV is totally eye popping when presented with good content. The Super Bowl in particular was like being on the field.

Having people like Jeff around to get the full potential from these panels is a great option to have - thanks Jeff!!!!

I know there was much debate about making adjustments in the sm offsets to rgb lows on my 5010. What was the final consensus of opinion? I have adjusted them with good results ( D-Nices) but am a little worried about potential problems now or in the future. Is it still the official stance of Pioneer to not make them?

My honey do payback list for buying this is still a mile long and I hate to still be "working it off" if have bricked it and I'm watching a 19" zenith for the next decade.

I used D-Nice's offsets for a while before the man himself calibrated my 5080 and optimized the RGB high and low settings this past September. I've had no problems whatsoever.

I'm curious if anyone has had their 5080 calibrated lately..
I am interested to see how much of a difference their might be between the SM setting D nice posted when these just came out, to what they are after a few thousand hours on the panels. You could post here or PM me. Thx.......

Hey Duck05, I just looked at the finalized settings in "user mode" that was in the UMR's REPORT. This is so interesting as they pretty well match my 6010 settings! I too had my set calibrated!!!

Here's a link to the settings D-Nice ended up with when he calibrated my 5080 this past September. At that time, the panel had around 6500 hours:

After 2 years of happy ownership, I've got a pretty perplexing issue with my Pro-1150.

When the unit is turned on, there is no picture. The display info in the upper right corner with the Input, resolution, etc... works fine, and I can toggle between inputs. However, none of the source material or the TV menus will display. Initially, I thought the display had simply conked out. However, when I was poking around I discovered that I could get the image to display in PIP.

When I push the Split button, I just get two black screens. But, if I push the Swap button, the source material appears in the split PIP window.

I'm worried that the main "tuner" on the display is gone and only the 2nd "tuner" is operational. I've successfully displayed Dish, Blu-Ray and PC (separate input) in the Split PIP window.

I'm pretty terrified that this is a catastrophic failure of some kind, but I'm hopeful that there may be a non-hardware fix available.

I've searched the forum and attempted a Master Reset, however due to the menus not operating on the display, I couldn't even make that work.

I think this one is a pretty interesting issue, I have my fingers crossed that one of the true experts might have the solution.

Cheers,
Chris

Ok, so I have been reading a few of the posts and have a few questions about the updated settings posted by D-Nice. I have the original settings still on Movie mode, and wanted to know how much of a difference would I get with these new settings with my 2yr old 5010fd?

And I am seeing something about complaints about once you make these changes to the High/lows that it is causing flickering or something?

Oh and my last question, if I make these changes, I thought I read something about needing to make these same changes for Blu Ray? How is this done?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I know at least with the non-Elites, if you play a Blu Ray (1080p/24) while entering the Service Menu it will bring up a different color table - Table2/50vs. Otherwise with other content you get Table1/60vs. Both tables are independent from each other, so you make adjustments to both.

Really? Damn. That means I need separate RGB settings for this particular table?

Yup. Take a look at the linked settings in my post above that show how D-Nice created separate offsets for [TBL2/50VS] Blu-Ray at 1080p 24 fps when he calibrated my 5080.

And as mittene noted, in order to access [TBL2/50VS] in the Service Menu you need to play a Blu-Ray at 1080p 24fps.

can you get pic on ANT B (tuner B) without invoking split screen? do you get any sound (when you start with ant A)? if you haven't tried this yet, try it--

assuming you have a connection to anb B
when you power up the tv, and nothing appears, press "ant B" on your remote, don't go to split-scr.

if a pic appears, then press ant A...see what happens.

if you stay only on ant B and can get normal on/off cycles, then your theory of tuner card A going bad is logical. if you are not able to get normal on/off from tuner B, perhaps there is another issue too (tuner may be bad too).

you haven't said anything about flashing lights...assuming none.

i have an 8G non-elite and have a similar problem but luckily only if the tv was left off at one specific channel (ch 711). in my case i can recover by going to ant B and back to ant A. also, once in a while i lose the pic while watching ch 711 (sound is ok) but i can recover by toggling between ant A & B.

Thanks, I made the leap of faith and went into the Service Menu's for both and made the necessary changes. Man am I impressed, it looks much brighter and the colors really stand out now. I didnt know the blacks could look even better then they were before.

I am still a Proud & Happy Owner of a KURO 5010

anyone have issues with TivoHD displaying Native resolutions on these panels? When I have it set to that, it turns the screen green and garbles the picture and menus for a few seconds every time it switches to a new resolution or the menu.

That's how HDTVs work -- it takes time for the resolution to change and to reestablish the HDMI connection. Switching it off native will fix it, though picture quality will be affected. You can also use component -- that usually swicthes resolutions MUCH mor quickly because it doesn't need to renegotiate the copy protection.

I have recently developed trouble with my pioneer 5080. Four times this week when I changed channels the screen went totally green. I turned the power off and back on and the screen was then normal. Everything was fine then the next day the same thing happened. My set is connected on input # 5 to comcast cable digital box with HDMI. I have not been able to duplicate the green screen on the other input which is connected to a blu-ray player. If someone has come across this problem could you help me. thanks norm

It sounds more like a problem with the cable box than your 5080, but try moving your cable box to the other inputs and put your Blu-Ray player on Input 5 to see what happens.

I thought the TV had to be off first to access the SM? How do I play a blu-ray at 24fps while entering the SM? Edumacate me....

Bad hdmi output on your cable box, known issue with the motorola box, bad solder joints.

The display needs to be in standby, not completely turned off. It will turn on as soon as you finish keying in the Service Menu sequence, and will play whatever source you are sending to it at that time - Blu-Ray player, cable box, whatever.

The Service Menu screens are superimposed over whatever content you are displaying. So all you need to do to access [TBL2/50VS] is have the Blu-Ray playing when you turn off the display and then go through the steps on your remote to enter the Service Menu and then the RGB controls.

I have a SA box, and run the connection component video because of the same issues.
