didnt need any reviews, already have Forza2 and Burnout is next
post #3 of 59
I'll rent it and see how it goes. I'm just not the off-road/rally racing type I guess. I haven't tried one on the PC or consoles yet that sold me on this type of racing, although Richard Burns Rally did give me an appreciation for the skill involved in it.

I've still got my fingers crossed for GTR 2... Forza 2 turned out to be better than I thought it would be, but I think that's largely because I bought the Microsoft wireless wheel for my rental of Forza 2. I probably wouldn't be into Forza 2 if I didn't have the wheel. I simply can't be competitive with the gamepad.

As much as I'm enjoying Forza 2, particularly online, it's just served to make me realize how much more alive the cockpit feels in GTR 2 on the PC. I want that experience with my 360 gawl dang it!

I loved the demo. I'm all over dirt.

Best Demo is recent memory. Buying for sure.
I'll be buying.

I paid close to $400 for a 360 FFB Wheel and a Playseat Evo racing chair for Forza 2 and having that setup pretty much obligates me to buy every decent racing game that comes out for the 360.

The reviewers main complaint was about the drving model and while that IS an important area of any racing game, I'd have to see more people expressing a dislike for it before deciding to completely stay away from the title. Opinions on this sort of thing are usually VERY subjective.

I was afraid this game would still be using the central pivot nonsense. That is my biggset complaint of the series since it hit the consoles. it's a rent for sure now.

After that demo it wasn't even a debate for me (actually before the demo, it wasn't a debate, I love rally!!!)
I don't need a review to tell me if a game is good for me or not. Playing the demo is a much better indication of the game overall quality. The driving may not be perfect in Dirt but after you get used to it, the game becomes so damn fun!

I'm buying.
Nope, I need to race against other cars. Racing against the clock is not worth $60 for me.
i'm in. the demo was a blast. and that was without the garbage trucks!

That's my problem with the game. Looks good, fun to tool around, but no multiplayer real racing. I'm going to wait for MotoGP 07 I guess.

Demo was the thumbs up for me.

I've never fully enjoyed online racing (ram ram and more ramming) so the fact that online component isn't as fleshed out as others doesn't mean much to me.

I'm impressed that IGN picked up on the biggest flaw in the McRae series and now, apparrantly, dirt (tho I didn't notice it as bad in the demo)....the car steers from the middle, not the front tires.

Its really annoying in the earlier CM games....your car appears to have one giant wheel in the center of the car, and thats the axis you turn on....if you stopped and tried to back up in the external view and turned the wheel it was very easy to see how wacked the steering was.

Thing is, I didn't notice this as much in DIRT...Hmmmmm...
There's a new Sega Rally due sometime as well
post #20 of 59
I was looking forward to DIRT, but then I played the demo. It wasn't my cup of tea. I also have a PS3, and Motorstorm looks and plays much better to me. So it was a bit of a letdown.

I am still waiting for the Motorstorm patch and downloadable content though.

Didn't it have about the same number of tracks?

What exactly in that review made you not want to buy the game, Reaper? The review ends by saying that it's such a good single player game that's its worth every penny of the sixty dollars.
Im not sure why peope are saying they will buy it despite the review. I thought the review was pretty positive overall. Anything over an 8 is usually considered a very good game.
knew i was buying as soon as i played the demo

IGN is one of those into Arcade games.

stuttering frame rates no problem for them. next time make them a game that runs at 20fps and they will give 10/10.
wait a mins so theres no online mode?

From the review it seemed the framerate was solid except on a few small occasions!
Plus they mention a lot of customization, so handling can be improved from the demo.
I' waiting for that sega rally game, so i can compare the two.
I'm holding out for Rallisport Challenge 3 (doubt it will ever get made). RSC2 was perfection for me, nothing else comes close.
I have been waiting for this one! But please tell me there are other cars on the tracks during single player game???
There are, in the buggy race. Also in Rallycross you are racing against another car, but it's on a track beside you. No other cars in hill climb and rally racing, which is pretty much how it is in real life.
