This sounds ominous. What is it??

If you rent too many dvd's in a 30 day period and they are not making a profit off of you, they slow the shipment of dvd's to you as well as report on when they receive them.

Heroes season one: Disks 1, 2, & 3 are all in the mail from Netflix today. That is fast shipping for a brand new release.

You can not ask for much more than that.

I just cancelled Blockbuster... I never get freakin HD-DVDs in time.. It just sits while just about all my movies say "Short Wait" or "Long Wait". I think they need to stock more damn HD-DVDs. The tip of the ice-burg for canceling though was because I got an email saying my plan was going up from $5.99 (2 online, 2 in-store rentals) to $7.99. So I said..adios. Blockbuster FTL.

I got Nottingham Hill which is just released yesterday from Netflix, and I had it at #1 in my queue. I know it's an old movie and I've had it in my queue forever and it just never seemed to make it up to the top, but once I saw it came out in HD I figured I'd give it a watch. Plus nothing else came out this week that looked good to me on HD.

Wow that's the same plan I'm on and I posted an email from BB earlier in this thread saying my rates wouldn't increase, and so far they havent. I wonder why some peoples rates (for the same plan) are going up and some aren't, or maybe it's just a matter of time for me.

I've actually stopped referring to my BB queue as a queue. I now just call it the 'Blockbuster Pile', because they seem to send you any old random movie from the list regardless of when it was added or what position it's in. I don't think I've gotten a movie from the top 3 slots of my pile in over a month.
Well as I've said in previous posts if you want a specific movie from BB you can only put a couple things in your queue. I never put more than 2 movies in my BB queue, so it forces them to ship what I want. Of course if you don't have Netflix too then this doesn't help you much, but if you have both try that as it works quite well.

Yeah, thats what I did and it worked! I had Blades of Glory [HD] as the only movie in my queue and they actually shipped it to me and I received it yesterday. I was shocked! I never ever have been shipped an HD DVD title the day it came out or even the first 2 weeks after the release date for that matter. I hope this works for the future as well and isn't a fluke. Does putting only 1 movie in your queue at a time usually work for you?

I sent back Heroes disk #1 today, it will be interesting to see if I get disk #4 (next in queue) as my replacement.

Well, I got an email warning me that if I didn't do anything then they would just charge me account for the new price.. $7.99. They also have a $4.99 plan now that is basically the $5.99 plan but you get jipped 2 movies - 2 online rentals, 0 in-store rentals.

Am I the last to hear about these NetFlix drop points? Has anyone seen one?

New Netflix Drop Points in Missouri & Michigan

Readers have reported two new Netflx drop points. Todd reports a new drop point in Springfield, Missouri, and Robert reports one in Gaylord, Michigan. Netflix picks up the movies from the drop points at 2am and trucks them to a shipping center for the 4am shift.

By the end of this year Netflix expects to have a total of 50 shipping centers and 50 drop points.

I might have to try that. I've been averse to it because even with a dozen movies in the pile, they still seem to like to wait 2-3 days before sending out the last title to fill out my plan. That might really be the best way to approach BB... one move out at a time only plan, and only 1 title in the queue at a time.
I have tried that and sometimes it works and sometimes not. Yesterday it worked. I have had Bourne Identity in my queue since it came out a couple of months back. It was listed as very long wait, then long wait. Yesterday I had two open slots and I was surfing around and found out that Shawn of the Dead was available so I moved it to the top. Bourne was in slot 4 still showing long wait but ahead of Blades and Shooter and somehow they decided to ship it to me even though Shooter was listed as only a short wait (which means they have a copy really).

I have had open slots with nothing but movies I really really want and my shipping will go from we expect to ship your next movie today.... to tomorrow then to .....the next day. After two days of nothing I usually cave and find something that is available now and slide it in.

Netflix doesn't like me as I return them too fast. I am on 3 at a time unlimited and usually get them to send 20-25 a month.

Netflix is awesome. Happy customer for many years! I get my movies in 1 day turn around 90% of the time!
Yes this has been working for me since I joined BB maybe 6 months ago. I had "The Contract" in my queue as the only movie and they shipped it yesterday, 2 days after returning the movie. It showed as Very Long Wait.

Remember it has been discussed a number of times in this thread. BB's availabilty status means absolutely nothing as it is done on a national level, and has absolutely nothing to do with your local distribution center.

2-3 days to ship seems normal for BB from the time I return the movie to the store. With both my BB and Netflix plan I always have a couple movies to watch at the house, so it's much more important to me to get what I want vs. maybe getting another BB movie a day earlier.

What do you know, Netflix shipped disk #4 to me. I put disk #2 back in the mail today, so hopefully I will get #5, followed shortly by #6 and #7. I really can't ask for faster service than they have given me on Heroes.

Sounds like you received great service. Does anyone else know anything about these drop off points that NETFLIX is starting around the country. Will the drop off points be similar to BB in store returns?

I found out about the drop off points after you. Does anyone have any further information regarding the NETFLIX drop off points?

Apparently, these drop points have been around for some time now. They don't appear to be places where customers can drop off movies, but where NetFlix ships to and from an area (probably one without a distribution center) using their own trucks to drop off and pick up mailers from the local Post Office who still handle residential delivery and such. I'm not sure if this is more for speed or economy.

BTW, NetFlix CEO Reed Hastings has a blog now, and guess what his current post is about?

http://reedhastings.blogspot.com/200...-2-losers.html

I don't really agree with his post (I think there are more than just two possible outcomes; and although I like the two winners scenario, I just don't see it happening), but I find it interesting that this is one of the first things he chose to blog about considering HDM rentals make up such a tiny part of his business right now.

Evolver,

Thanks for the link as that was a very informative blog. I encourage everyone to read it.

Yes, I am. I live in the metro Salt Lake City area -- which is a Netflix hub; yet, they often send me discs from Colorado and Texas because they are "not available" from my local hub. ? That takes about three times longer than if they were available locally.

I also have several discs on my list that are listed as "short wait", but they have been that way now for over three weeks. What is their definition of "short wait"?

The same thing happens to me. If they don't have my next movie in Richmond, VA they will send it from Columbus, OH and it takes a couple of days more to get to me. I wish I had the option of skipping that movie until they have it and just getting the next one in my cue instead.

I live in Shreveport, LA and my movies always come from Baton Rouge, LA through NETFLIX.

Anyone receive any new titles this week. The Labor Day Holiday slowed everything down for me.

I received Delta Farce from NETFLIX in Blu-ray this week. I have received a new release from NETFLIX every week in HD for over one year now.
