I'm sure your CPU will have plenty of power when combined with these new cards (since the cards have enough decoding power to completely unload the CPU).
There are quite a few cards available today that will let you play back 1080p VC-1 perfectly too. My slightly less powerful Athlon XP 3200+ combined with ATI's X1950Pro 512MB AGP is able to play back absolutely all 1080p VC-1 content in XP flawlessly with roughly 40-50% CPU utilization in the worst case (some rare spikes slightly higher, but not much). I haven't had any trouble playing back 1080p h.264 content either with this setup (I'm not really sure why it works so well for this, but it works flawlessly with roughly 60-70% CPU utilization)
Unfortunately with Vista, and the new DXVA2, ATI cards don't appear to support any hardware acceleration at all yet. Hopefully new drivers will be available soon (but I suspect the HD cards will be supporting DXVA2 in Vista before the current ones do).
