Counting all of the vehicles we have owned since we started dating back in 1988 we have had a 3 cylinder, 1991 Geo Metro, 6 four cylinders, 1981 Ford Escort, 1993 Saturn SL1, 1998 Plymouth Breeze, 1988 Toyota pickup, 1987 Nissan Pathfinder, 2012 Nissan Altima, 4 six cylinders 1979 Jeep CJ7, 2008 Chrysler 300, 2008 GMC Acadia, 2001 Pontiac Montana. Not one 8 cylinder in the lot. Oh and not necessarily in that order either.

Oh now wait a tick, I guess we technically "own" our sons car since everything is in our name, however he does make the payments. "His" car is a 2003 Cadillac DeVille that has the Northstar V8 in it.

Glad you like it. I don't know anyone who owns one but would love the opportunity to drive one. I'm still on the fence about the whole electric car thing, kind of like 3D, still not really ready for prime time, but they are making strides all the time. Lots of advantages, but drawbacks too. (Just like everything in life). I would say that the Volt is one of the first "real" contenders but just like any new technology there are teething and growing pains. One day cars (electric and fossil fuel) will be only in the history books and we will teleport to where ever we want to go.

If I were going the electric route though I think I'd pick up this little beauty.




Thanks, the riser was actually easier to get done than car shopping was. I am still not used to the CVT but it is really a leap forward in smoothness and feel.

^^^Good info to know about the reliability issues and the sudden stops/starts I'll keep that in mind, however since Mrs. RTROSE changes/trades about every 20 to 36 months long term issues won't be a problem. Just glad that she doesn't trade in husbands as often as she does vehicles.

Nothing wrong with driving an "older" vehicle, after a while you can actually refer to your ride as a "classic" for that old school feeling!

Just a quick update on my progress.

I am now one plumber visit away from having a functional kitchenette so that is a very good thing. He has to make a few connections and crimps and I should be good to go. Will be very nice to have an operating sink/faucet down there. Need to purchase a microwave to complete the ensemble and all of the basics should be covered.

Still working on carpet options. Been working through a local carpet store and he has had some issues with his sources, sending the wrong samples, no availability, etc, etc.

Soooo.........I'm leaning towards my first choice which is the one in post #1685. I was trying to explore some slightly cheaper options that I would still be happy with. Have not completely thrown in the towel for other options but I'm close as I want to get my riser done.

I also have just simply been enjoying my theater, watching movies, listening to music and loving every minute of it. I still get a grin ear to ear when I am down there. In some respects it is still hard for me to believe it is in my house and not some dream. Corney I know, but how I feel sometimes.

I had a coworker over the other day to "show off" my theater, and I think he was truly impressed and speechless and I was happy to share my experience/theater as well. Fun stuff!

Well actually that kind of backfired as his wife and Mrs RTROSE are friends. She was over the other day and Mrs RTROSE gave her a demo so now she wants her husband to build them a theater in their basement, he thanked me later when he came to do some work.

I'm just glad he didn't up his price!

Whoa, wait just a minute. I guy disappears for a few days, doesn't update his thread for a little while and the natives get restless and go bananas.

Work has be absolutely crazy busy with very little recreational time at all.

On the carpet front. I had been working with my regular carpet guy who had gotten a new supplier with some additional theater themed carpet. I looked at the samples and requested an actual sample. Well after about a week and a half I received the sample which was the wrong one. On top of that I then found out that the new samples had a minimum purchase well over what I was needing. Sooooooo........I went back to my original plan of my two choices. I ended up going with the "Cinema" print and should be here in a couple of weeks. All of that to end up where I started. Oh well no harm no foul.

As for the acoustical treatments I have built three frames so far. Need to sand them down and get them painted black. Just have not had a lot of time to do "fun stuff" with being so busy with work.

I'll post pics when I have picture worthy progress. I promise. Thanks for keeping me from going to the archives an honest to boot.

Well, well, well.......where have all my faithful fans gone. Usually one of you is good for keeping me out of the archives, now that I actually have something to post about nobody is around.

However, will I let that deter me from sharing my progress of late? No sirrrreeee, not by a long shot.

I am not complaining at all (very happy to have a job), but I have not had a day off since Good Friday. Work, work, work........with working so much I have just been plain flat tired to say the least, does not leave a lot of extra energy to work in the theater. On the plus side I have had some free evenings to actually watch a movie or two, just not as many as I would have like to have watched.

Enough blabbering on to actual progress.

I got my sink, faucet, and drain sump installed, plumbed, wired, and operational. My kitchenette is finally operational. Just need to get a microwave and I'm all set. (Popcorn maker to hopefully come later). Nice to have a working sink and faucet to go with the kitchenette.

Well fellas, while I still have some little things to do like trim, and the acoustic panels, touch up work, and an additional light in the kitchenette, I have a completed theater. I can say that while I don't know what you actually "feel" I can imagine those of you who are in my boat look around and marvel at what you have done, grinning from ear to ear. At least that's what I do. To those of you who are still dreaming, planning, working on and constructing your theaters, I assure you it is all "worth it". This truly has been a journey like no other. Filled with blood, sweat, and tears, sacrifices, setbacks, accomplishments, and satisfaction.

I think it turned out fantastic, and is pretty much what I had envisioned from the start. The best part is that it's mine, I built it, and I'm completely happy and satisfied!
