What can you guys recommend?
So far I have been looking into the Revel Ultima Embraces, the Revel S30's, and the Aerial SR3's (which leads the pack).

What are your existing main speakers?

The same brand as your front speakers and the model that is identical to, or most closely matches, your front speakers.

For my mains, I'm trying to decide between the Revel F52's and the Aerial 9's.

Tnilsson: Many people recommend matching speakers all around, but I think it's more important for the LCR fronts. For surrounds, I would rather try to get the best thing out there in terms of performance.

I have Aerial 9's (and still own 10T's and 7B's ). I actually mounted a pair of 5B's to the rear side walls. If I could space wise I would prefer using the 7B's mainly because I listen to alot of multi channel music. Recently I've been contemplating changing them to Triad in wall silver moniters. The question is will the better placement I will get with the Triad make up for losing the Aerial continuity.

Yes, while matching across the front is far more crucial, it's still definitely advisable to match to the rears as well as possible. That's the way to get the best performance. Stick with speakers that match the fronts wherever possible.

I agree that matched L, C, and R speakers are imperative. As to the rest, it depends on what you plan to do with them and how long you plan to keep them. Music and movie media are going more and more toward surround sound. If even sound all the way around is important to you (and it will only become more so), then matched speakers all the way around are still a good idea.

Let us know which mains you choose. The Triads are good but I can't imagine them comparing favorable to the 7b's unless the 7b's are really poorly placed. Then again, I think both are overkill for sides... but I suppose if I "could" maybe I "would"?

The Triad Silver Moniter are very nice speakers and for the price difference compare well-until you get to the 80hz range. The imaging falls short too, which is the case for all in wall speakers I have heard.

I agree with ChrisWiggles.

I have the Embraces as side surrounds and the S30 as the rears. The S30 is a really nice surround speaker, but the Embrace is a better speaker. With big action scenes, these babies are loud and clear. I also listen to alot of multi-channel music. Excellent sound. But, they are big and pricy.
