Hello everyone, I'm posting here in hopes of finding a solution to my issue that I believe is on the receiver.
I originally posted HERE
thinking it was an issue with the TV, but after a couple of tests, I believe it is an issue with the receiver.
My setup is as follows...
PlayStation 3 (Video 2/BD) and Toshiba HD-DVD HD-A2 (DVD) player connected with HDMI cables to the STR-DG910 receiver, then an HDMI cable (Output) from the receiver to the 42' Phillips LCD model 42PFL7432D/37 TV. Obviously, my speakers are connected to my receiver.
My issue is as follows...
Watching a movie on the HD-DVD player with no issues, turn on PS3, switch receiver from DVD input (HD-DVD) to Video 2/BD input (PS3).
After I do this I get one of three results:
1.- Image displays distorted, out of sync. Here's a picture CLICK HERE
. See how image gets cut off on the right but cut off area is displayed on the left.
2.- I get a black screen, however, I can still hear the PS3 (either the movie or the dashboard navigation).
3.- Image displays fine (happened only once and image appeared distorted after switching again).
I have also reproduced the issue above by simply going from a BluRay movie on the PS3 to the PS3's dashboard... heck, while watching I Am Legend on BluRay, the movie was jumping to the next title (from the FBI announcement, to the main menu) and the video signal got interrupted for a second, saw a green flash on the screen, and the image was distorted. It seems that the most minor loss of video signal causes this issue.
Keep in mind turning off the receiver and turning it back on does NOT fix the issue, however, turning the TV off and back on ALWAYS fixes the issue.
Steps I have followed to troubleshoot the issue...
1.- Connected the PS3 via HDMI directly to a different HDMI input on the TV. I was able to navigate between the BluRay movie and the PS3's dashboard with no distortion whatsoever. I also ruled out the TV due to the fact that even while the image was distorted, the on screen menu for the TV looked fine as pictured HERE
2.- A friend mentioned it could be an issue with switching between 1080p (PS3) and 1080i (HD-DVD), so I forced the PS3 to output 1080i. The issue still happened, didn't even have to switch inputs, going from the BluRay movie to the PS3's dashboard produced a distorted image.
I also tried turning on the OSD menu for the receiver while the image was distorted and this is what happened, pictured HERE
Another example that I documented... I turned on the setup and was waiting at the PS3's dashboard, selected the option to start watching the BluRay disc, lost video for a second (TV displayed NO VIDEO SIGNAL), saw a green flicker on the TV, the movie started playing with a distorted image as pictured previously. The TV did the exact same thing when the PS3 was connected directly via HDMI to the TV, however, the image was not distorted after the movie started playing.
I have tried searching for terms such as "out of sync", "loss of video on switch", and others with no results related to my issue, so I apologize if this has been discussed previously.
I don't know what else to do, this is my last resort and my next step is to call Sony.
While I consider myself technically savvy, I am brand new to the whole Home Theater scene and I am still suffering to understand everything. I have other questions about audio, but I will research more on those before I ask... besides, this is the actual issue that has me concerned.
I appreciate any assistance provided! Thanks for reading!
