Need advice on Panasonic PX75u purchase...........

I am really considering picking up the 42" 75u this week but have a few questions. I have read about breaking in the plasma which I don't have a problem with. The main issue I see happening is with my wife. I fell like I will probably have to leave her a hand written guide on what to watch and how long to watch it for (in case there is a static logo on the screen). I don't want to tell my wife to turn Noggin every 30 minutes because of the static logo and possibilities of burn in. This is honestly the only reason she doesn't want a plasma. She thinks it has the best image out of all of the sets I have owned but worries it will be to much up keep for a tv. I also worry about the possible burn in with games and wonder how big of an issue it really is. I have had headache after headache with LCD tv's and am sick of it (clouding, banding, etc). It has pretty much come down to a plasma or SXRD/DLP rear projection set (even thought I hate the idea of having to switch out bulbs). Plus this tv will be in an armoire which means a tight fit (I am worried about the heat issues). Sorry for such a long post but I really need some advice. Thanks in advance.

Well she's going to have to realize the pitfalls of each of the new TV technologies, and get used to the concessions one has to make to get that great plasma PQ - one of which is being careful during the break-in period, and realizing that no matter which bigscreen tech you buy nowadays you're going to have to utilize the ASPECT key on the remote which didn't exist until the relatively recent advent of bigscreen TVs. Give her some female examples of why she should be careful with black bars and logos on the Plasma - like how her skin gets burned and irrititated when she leaves Nair on her legs too long, or how her hair gets frizzy if she leaves conditioner on it too long, or if the uses too much heat in the dryer her sweaters will shrink. If she can take measures to avoid these things from happening in her world, she can do so with her big new shiny TV. My GF has the whole bright logo/black bar/paused image thing down pat and accepts it as a small price to pay for that awesome image.

There is no good reason why your wife can't accept the limitations of a Plasma just as you have accepted them, especially since she's sharp enough to tell that it has the best PQ.

There's no way i'd ever settle for an RPTV. There is already way too much redundant discussion of games and burn-in on this forum and i ain't gonna add to it. Search around for more talk on this.

I think i remember your other post about having a few inches on the sides and top if you were to get a PX75U, but is there enough width in your armoire to fit the wider 42PE77U or PX77U in there instead? (both are 44.7"). The reason i ask is because the PX77U and PE77U have a 1.6" lower overall height which will give you 1.6" more of a cooling gap above the TV for heat to escape. The extra width wouldn't matter because the sides of these TVs are cool to the touch (as it is on my older PX50U) and all the heat that does escape comes out the top of the cabinet so the extra clearance above would be better.

Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it. Those are good examples for my wife. I think she is just afraid she will accidently leave it on a channel with a static logo on accident and mess up the tv. From what I have read as long as I break it in properly and she doesn't over due it, IR is about the only thing she should experience if she left it on a static image (like noggin or the CNN logo) correct? As you have probably already guessed we have a little boy and another on the way so Noggin dominates during the day at my house . Would she just basically need to turn it to something without a static image every hour or so to prevent this? Sorry if that is a dumb question but I have read so many opinions on what to do during normal use of a plasma. How are your viewing habits? Any advice would definitely help me (and sway my wife) decide on the purchase.

Gaming is also something I do quite a bit and am somewhat concerned about burn in. It seems like if you just watch normal tv after you play IR normally goes away. The 720p versus 1080p kind of bothers me but I honestly don't think I will be able to tell the difference. I have seen 720p on the 75u and it crushes anything I have seen on a 1080p lcd. As for the the clearance in the armoire, I don't think it will be wide enough to fit the 77u. I measured today and I will have about 1.5-2 inches on the left and right and about 2.5-3 inches on the top if I get the 75u. I already have a little rotating fan that I was planning on putting behind the tv and angling up to the top to avoid heat issues. I don't know if that would work but it might do the trick.

I've had my 75U for 2 weeks now. I just turned the picture and breightness down to around 10 and didn't worry about it. I also set my cable box feed to fill standard defintion channels to full screen to avoid black bars on the side. I have yet to see IR. Just change around your channels to include some full HD feeds.

Don't get paranoid about it.

Thanks for the response. That is good advice. I don't have Hi-Def satellite yet but will in the future. Do you play games on the set?
