What DL DVD-R media to use on HDA1

All I have an HD-A1 can any one tell what DL media they use that works? I've been burning my DVR recordings to DL but they all seem to stop at the layer break! I'm on FW 2.0 any reports on the newer FW improving DL play back?

Thanks.

When my A1 was working it played Verbatim discs fine with a slight pause at the layer change.

I have made several HD discs using DL Verbatim discs with good results.

Verbatim is the absolute only DL disks I'll use. I've always only had perfect results with Verbatim DL.

Just to be clear, are we talking Verbatim DVD-R DL, or DVD+R DL?

But yes, Verbatim is good.

It bricked during the 2.2 firmware update. I just bought an xa2 instead of fixing it.

There's a sticky at the top of the HD-DVD software forum:

I have never seen Verbatim DL-R, only DL+R, though there were reports it was finally to be released sometime after the +R dual layers were out.

+R has loss linking technology that was never in the dvd-r format, -r discs just did not have it in the spec, so unless they added that to the Dual Layer-r, I would only get the +R dual layers.

Never buy memorex dual layers, the failure rate on burns and player incompatibilities are a total nightmare.

I have used Verbatim +R dual layers for a year or more now, not 1 coaster ever, unless I screwed up the content to be burnt somehow. You also need a quality burner... if I were you I prefer a NEC or Pioneer dvd burner, that has been specifically reviewed for the dual layer media brand Verbatim before I would buy one.... will save you loads of aggravation.

Can't go wrong with Verbatim + or-. It would be my main choice if prices were equal.

But, on some deals too good to pass up, I have no problem with Fuji or Ridata either.

I bought a Fuji +DL just to try it in BB about a year ago. Every disc I burnt was fine. Interestingly the XA-2 plays all of those burnt back up movies without layer break up, I mean it's "seamless", even though on the originals there is a noticable pause. This is only when I burn with DVD Decrypter, with Nero burnt disc the layer change sometimes causes the player to skipp to the next chapter. So it's not just the media in my experience.

The problem with the A2 is that it does not playback DD5.1 sound on the home burned disks. I do all of my disks with Verbatim DL and DD5.1 sound and on the A1 it works great. But Toshiba changed something on the A2 and since then I have heard nothing but complaints with the ability (or lack of) in playing back DD5.1 sound. (NEVER had a coaster with Verbatim DL's.... can't even see the layer break)

I've got some verbs and all is fine now with the verbs DL's and the no name brand DL's I had been using before, I think it may have been burning directly from Movie Factory 6 that was the problem.

I now mux / create the disc using MF6 then burn as a regular DVD with nero and now no problems.

I can only guess that MF6 doesn't define the layer break very well or my A1 thinks that if I burn a UDF2.5 HD-DVD image it should be on a HD-DVDr or nothing else, probably not but it works now so I'm happy.

That said I can't waite for HD-DVD burners and HD-DVDr's [DL], I can live with switching disc a la the good old [s]VCD days but I'd rather not ; )
