For an AX100, high contrast grey or matte white screen ????

Thread Starter
Im building another theater room and am going to get another AX100, I was all set to order a 120" Elite white screen but started looking at the 106" High Contrast Grey screen by Elite.

My seating will be about 12 to 13 feet back from the screen in a totaly light controlled dedicated theater room.
Movies only, using a HD DVD player and a Blu Ray player.

I have done a search but could not really find any good answers, and in all my years of being a projector junkie I have never used a grey screen before.

Thanks in advance for any help and input.

I'd say go with the high contrast screen. You got more than enough lumens with your AX100, right, so why not improve the black levels a tad?

The question is whether you want to buy a specific screen just for this one projector? If so, a high contrast screen might be the right choice. However, if you want a screen which lasts longer than this one projector, things may be different. The next generation of projectors (e.g. once we have laster as a light source) may not need a high contrast screen, anymore. With such a projector a grey screen would not help at all but just eat brightness.

Go with the gray screen. Unless you have a completely pitch black room it will help. I have the Stewart Grayhawk RS and it works very well even with some light on it.

I have the Elite High contrast grey 120" screen in use with this Panny model and it's incredible. Great screen for the $$$. I highly recommend!... Here is a Blu-Ray "Fifth Element" pic of my PT-AX100U on the 120" High Contrast Grey Elite screen...(projecting from my Sony Vaio Blu-Ray laptop).

I have a designer white DIY 92 inch screen and the picture is magnificent! I do have a completely light controlled room but do watch it with some ambient light in the rear of the room.

Dont get a pulldown they all eventually have waves, it doesnt show untill you have scrolling text on the bottom like a ESPN sport's ticker.
