You might give it another try, we just found a problem where it wouldn't add some channels, and have posted an update.

Other suggestions:
- Make the Info and OSD screens smaller or less obtrusive. Also allow user to set how long the Info and OSD remain on the screen.
- Make the Info, OSD, and Guide screens customizable (opacity, color, etc)
- If you dont have plans to disable buttons, maybe show what the program is currently doing either over the TV screen or on a status bar. That way you can show a "Recording...(elapsed time here)" message or "Paused" message, etc.

Keys will work with minor version updates, like going from version 1.1.0 to 1.2.0, but not with a major version update, like 1.1.0 to 2.0.0. We don't currently have any plans for a major version update.

Thanks for the other suggestions, we'll consider them.

(allowing the info/osd screen to stay up for a user-defined amount of time...Or permanently until a key is pressed....)

I want to use Easy HDTV on a netbook with a USB2 ATSC tuner, and use it as a signal meter.
(Have you considered a signal quality meter, along with signal strength???)
However, it's fairly annoying to have the info screen with signal strength disappear after about 12 seconds.
Yeah, I can turn it back on by hitting the space bar, but that's kind of a pain when you're up in a shallow attic.

My two cents: the more customization/options available to the end user, the more people that will be attracted to EasyHDTV.
For example: Look at FFDshow... Complicated for a newbie, yes... But it can do just about anything you need it to.

We have a couple major features we're working on, once those are finished we'll start looking into those kinds of user interface tweaks.

-Add a button to the program to dump the video cache to a file. This way, the hour or so of video that is in the cache can be recorded to a video file at any time.

That's a limitation of Microsoft's Stream Buffer Engine which we use as the underlying recording mechanism. While not totally out of the question, it would require we write a replacement for it, which would be a pretty major undertaking.

Ok, you have an opportunity for 6 licenses here! :-)

I'm an IT manager at a Dallas Hotel. This past year we put 6 PCs in our Employee Cafeteria for our associate's use. They can surf the net, print, and watch TV via a WinTV HVR-1250 card. The units are Dell Inspirion 530S, with Vista Home Premium, 2GB of RAM.

Our cable system is very odd though. We use OnCommand video (satellite service for hotels). We have that analog signal sent down the the cafeteria and split between the 6 PCs and 2 HDTVs. The card picks up those channels fine.

We also send our Local Digital Channels from our hotel antenna. The TVs in the Cafeteria pick them up fine (albeit tuned to very odd channels, like 107.1, 105.3 etc when they should be 4.1, 5.1, 11.1, etc), but neither the WinTV nor the VMC software can pick up the channels.

I've installed your trial on one of the PCs, and the only way I could get the software to run was to use the following settings:

It tunes the channels, and they all appear to be there (except ABC which is VHF), however I get no audio. Here is my channel listing:

If I can get this working I should be able to convince my boss to buy 6 licenses...the difference between the interlaced analog channel and the digital channel is HUGE when viewed side by side. I just need audio! Is there a particular codec I should download?

Thanks! James

Ok, I tuned via Cable(IRC) and got the VHF channels to show...still no audio though:

According to this this that decoder is only for use by Microsoft Applications. Are there any other audio decoders listed? If not you could try ffdshow it's got a nice normalize volume feature which stops the commercials from being too loud.

I downloaded the FFDshow codec pack, but the program errors out when I try to use it. I'll get a screen grab for it in a bit.

Ok, so now that I KNOW those channels are capable of being tuned...is there a reason why Vista Media Center and WinTV couldn't find them?

I have similar problems. I can find channels with Easy HDTV's trial, but I cant find them with other more bloated TV viewing software like BeyondTV or Total Media. The only channel they find is the last channel I tuned to with Easy HDTV ha. It boggles my mind.

Microsoft uses an online database for the channel information. This probably works for most people, but the drawback is any unusual channel not in the database isn't show.
I have the application installed on Windows 7. I run a channel scan and it shows signal levels but does not populate the channel list. Any suggestions? Has any one else had any success running this on Windows 7?

Thank you,

Ken

Make sure the "slow scan" box is checked.

Which tuner are you using?
Silicon Dust HD Homerun. I have tried both slow scan checked and unchecked. Also tried running in Vista SP1 compatibility mode.

Looks like it is a firewall problem. You have to allow "Easy HDTV.exe" or "Easy HDTV DVR.exe" to access the network.

click "start"->"control panel"

click "administrative tools"

click "Windows Firewall with advanced security"

click "Inbound rules"

click "New Rule"

set the "program" radio button, click "next"

set the "This program path:" radio button, enter the path "%ProgramFiles%\\Easy HDTV\\Easy HDTV.exe" or "%ProgramFiles%\\Easy HDTV DVR\\Easy HDTV DVR.exe", click "next"

set the "Allow the connection" radio button, click "next"

Click "next" again

enter a name like "Easy HDTV", click "finish"

gc04, Thank you for the quick reply. I am sure I would never have gotten that one.

I've installed the latest version on my windows server 2008 box. However,

when I start the program, it shows a dialog

Error:

Can not create demultiplexer, Error REGDB_E_CLASSSNOTREG

How to fix this? Which com object it's trying to load? I uses ffdshow package. Also, I've installed the 'destktop experience' component on WinSRV2008, which include the windows media player.

It's trying to load the MPEG-2 demultiplexer, it's in the file mpg2splt.ax. Looks like 2008 server doesn't come with this file. In searching around it looks like you have to copy these files from a Vista machine and register them.

First enable Desktop Experience then copy the following AX files from a Vista installation (windows/system32) to the system32 directory on W2K8.
Cut and paste the commands in a batch file to register them.

regsvr32 /s bdaplgin.ax
regsvr32 /s kstvtune.ax
regsvr32 /s ksxbar.ax
regsvr32 /s Mpeg2Data.ax
regsvr32 /s mpg2splt.ax
regsvr32 /s MSDvbNP.ax
regsvr32 /s MSNP.ax
regsvr32 /s psisrndr.ax
regsvr32 /s VBICodec.ax
regsvr32 /s vbisurf.ax
regsvr32 /s WSTPager.ax
Thanks Greg.

I copied and registered the files and it now starts properly. However, when I try to scan the channel, the 'demodulator: Mode' pull down list has no option to choose. The same adapter(USB) works fine in XP/Vista/Win7. Any other component is missing?

We don't have Server 2008 to test it with, but there are several threads on getting BDA tuners to work with Server 2008 like this one http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=114549 it includes a patch file http://rapidshare.com/files/19483999...erver.exe.html you could try.

Hi, I just bought a version of Easy HDTV. I am able to see the video and listen to the sound but after 30 seconds or so, the sound goes mute and I am unable to turn it back on, is there any way to fix this? If not, I would like a refund of my money.

Ok, I've been using Easy HDTV for over-the-air stuff for a long time.

I JUST now got around to hooking it up to ClearQAM.

With the WinTV application, I get 105.1, 105.2, 105.3, etc. They display fine.

With Easy HDTV, it also detects them and adds them to the channel list.

But like others have said, it will show the PSIP(?), the show's name, signal at 100%, but NO picture or sound.

Obviously the channel works, as WinTV can get it. I do NOT like that application though.

I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 under Windows 7 Pro.

Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem with Easy HDTV. I'm also using a Hauppauge HVR-2250 with Windows 7. Some QAM channels come in, but most just give me a blank screen and no sound, including the unencrypted local channels.

I can't use WinTV7, because it doesn't detect some local channels that other software has no trouble finding. I can't use Windows Media Center, because it won't save .wtv files in high definition. I'm still looking for alternative software that works.

One thing I noticed is that, while Easy HDTV seems to know about both of the 2250's tuners, it can't wake up or use the second tuner. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I'm able to use both tuners just fine I thought.

I don't think your situation of it not using the other tuner is the issue. If you go back a few pages, you'll see some others post about ClearQAM channels not showing a picture.

It seems like an issue specific to Easy HDTV.

Yes, that is exactly the problem I'm having. Some clear QAM channels don't show a picture or sound. Some do, so it does work on some level.

Ok, I just tested 1.5.0, 1.5.1, 1.5.2, 1.5.3, and 1.5.4 under Windows XP Professional x86, Vista Ultimate x86, Windows 7 Professional x86 and Windows 7 Professional x64.

Video cards used:
GeForce 8800GT
Radeon Mobility X300
Intel 945 Express Chipset

TV Provider: Charter (St. Louis)

I tested two devices.
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
HDHomeRun (1016xxx hardware)

"ClearQAM" does NOT WORK on most channels (the ones I want!). Mostly local channels didn't come in. I couldn't get ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. However, stuff like "TBS HD" came in just fine.
All stations were shown to have 100% signal strength, and it even downloaded proper show information, like "ABC Morning Show" or whatever. It couldn't display the show's name without getting information from the station.

I can view the ClearQAM channels just fine in Windows Media Center, WinTV7, and the QuickTV app from the HDHomeRun people.

Now, HDHomeRun is listed as an officially supported tuner, plus there is a post on the first page of this thread from 2007 saying it works.

So what gives? Why would ClearQAM suddenly not work for me and others???

Did Easy HDTV add recording support recently?
