I am using( as are many others who have posted here) Omnimount 10.0's with PM800's with great results. I've just recently seen the 5.0's at a hifibuys store and thought, "ohh , im sure glad i got the tens instead".
the 10.0's handle the PM800's nicely, but I personally would NOT trust the 5.0's to do the job.

I have some 10.0's to sell too. i bought 5 of em and only used 2 for my rears. NOT BIASED just to sell them either.

I gave up my Blu-Ray bitterness and grabbed a Sony BDP-S350. It was at BB for $200 after $100 off. I had gambled on a Toshiba HD-A2 earlier. The Sony bitstreems the new HD codecs, letting me see the all important "blue light" on my Denon 1909. I thought the Def techs Sounded great with the new WALL-E Blu-ray in DTS-HD Master audio.

Great to hear you found your back from the dark side What you think about the Audyssey EQ, do you have it playing or off.

I really think the Denon's where made for the DT's, of all the AVR's out there they sound the most natural and made my DT's come to life.

How much difference can you tell between DTS-HD Master audio vs the standard DTS format on DVD's? Is it equiv to what I hear in the compression differences in the various mp3 formats 48, 128, 256, apple raw format?

When I listen to mp3's I can hear a pretty significant difference between the lowest levels and the higher levels but not always so much in the middle levels & I wondering what really to expect from this upgrade when I get to it?

I have no facts to support my claims, but I feel that all of the HD audio formats (Dolby TruHD, DTSMA or PCM) on Blu-ray are far superior to anything on DVD.

Hey there Im noobie. I looking to start building our home theater system.. Currently have 50 inch Panny 700u and a Panny 30K Bluray player..

I want to either get a Onkyo 606 or the Pioneer 1018AH-K. receiver. I leaning towards the Pioneer..?

Also want to start out 1 center and 2 Fronts as far as speakers go. and build up as more funds become avail

what is my best route to go... I like the sound of Deftech @BB but open to all opinions!!!

Thanks Jason

Plex,

I thought that the def techs sounded great at the low volume I listened to the wall-e DTS-HD track at (-40db on the Denon and about 60db spl measured by a radioshack meter) . I had the Audyssey Dnanamic EQ & Volume on, which I thought really helped the def techs bring out the details one would typically miss from the surround experience at low volumes. I also found the sound to be very natural, it just seemed to be like I was hearing the sounds more than listening to the speakers.

When are getting your for your Denon? I'd love to hear your impression.

Hey d.a.v.e.

The last dts track on dvd I listened to is "Master and Commander". I know it would be much better to compare the exact same mix encoded in both dts formatts, but here we go. I found the dts mix for "Master and Commander" to sound great but I thought the surrounds and bass to be a little "pumped up". The wall-e soundtrack in DTS-HD was free of the "hey hear how hard we can make the sub hit! and Boy listen to them there surrounds blastin!" It just sounded natural. A horribley unscientific comparison I know.

I have heard some mp3s that sound like old school cassette tape and some that sound good, but none that sound as good as CD under ideal listening conditions. I do not think that the new HD audio formats offer the pronounced difference of mp3 vs CD. I think that the difference is for those of use with a crittical or obsesive ear. I don't expect my wife to ever turn to me and say: "Thanks for playing the new HD Audio track; I'm such a lucky wife!"

Hope this helps

Welcome Jason.

Now lets get started, what is the size of your room/how far will you be sitting from that panny? Most important, what's your budget for this 3.0 speakers. My first recommendation would be...just tell me your budget since others might think I'm be pushy.
We can worry about the rears last but after you save up money you should then start looking at sub-woofers, but that is some we can talk about later.

I like the 1018 and thought about that for a new AVR until I read about the calibrations systems of each. Pioneer 1018 does not have Audyssey calibration http://www.audyssey.com/index.html, (check this site out you will see what all the talk is about) so I'd look at the 606. You might think calibration is the same across the brands but Audyssey does a mulit-point room measurment and adjustments your speakers for that room and all the stuuf in there, it takes you further with Audyssey Dynamic EQ. Right now the calibration & EQ will only effect the front 3 speakers but after you add the sub and rears you will be happy you got the 606.

or he can buy my Onkyo 705. LOL
I'm just selling everything aren't I.
Well I did make a new purchase this weekend.
A Samsung BD-P1500 Bluray player.
I was sick of not being able to see my TRUE HD and DTS HD MA codecs display on my 705, so voila. now i can. HOWEVER and its a big HOWEVER.
Along with the new BD player, comes some new problems.
For one, the first BD I played was Hancock, bitstreaming to the AVR, 705 in TRUE HD, and I was experiencing brief drop-outs in the audio track. They appeared to start happening more and more often as well. Switched to PCM and no problem.
Also I finally experienced the DTS HD MA "GUNSHOT" issue on the 705 when watching Master and Commander at 17:23 into the movie, however I had heard about this issue before and am aware that is repairable with a firmware update to the 705 so no biggie. But then I watch WANTED last night in the sammy 1500 and I get the BONUSVIEW window in the top left hand corner and it WONT GO AWAY!. pic below.

so at this point, i have yet to perform a couple of A and B tests between the PS3 and the BDP1500 with duplicate BD's (Transformers to start) but afterward I will surely be returning the Samsung BD player, even if it was only 198.
Pending the results of my A/B comparisons, i may look into getting a different stand alone BD Player, but definitely not the bdp1500. Im also looking into the Denon AVR's as well, and will be trying to pick one up here soon.

ANYWAY, im working on uploading some pics right now as promised, so ill be back with another post here shortly. see ya !

Okay hea ya go.
I've complied like 15 or so pics kinda showing a little progression of my setup.

click to enlarge the images, and then you can click for full size in the new window(beats me, photobucket, heh)

These are Extreme BEFORE pics- 61 inch Sammy, stand & PS3 ONLY!

Here I was trying the SM350's and my Onkyo 705 out after having just heard the PM1000's. I tossed together some home made speaker stands from 2x4's and MDF cause im that impatient and particular, lol.
This was in the pre-furniture days when I was limited to only a photon matress(no frame) on the floor. Bed by night, couch by day, no bs)

Then I finally got my ProCenter2000. Look at the difference in size between the 1000 and the 2000. More than I expected.
also my PC1000 is for sale! so pm me if your interested guys.

Here is the Back wall area of my living room. now you can see why rear wall mounting was out for me... and YES those are Paint samples. I still have much more to do in the house. Anyway, I think this pic exemplifies why BPx2's would not be a good choice for my room. sounds would be bouncing all around. I like being able to aim the PM800's where I like and have the sounds path free and clear of walls, or other obstructions. Opinions?

The First two of these pics are of the Right Surround, and the 3rd pic is the Left Surround but from the Left Side. I still need to put my banana plugs on my Right Surround, and Fix the Wire where it comes out of the wall on the left surround, but mainly Im showing these pics so everyone can see the Omnimount 10's in action since ppl keep asking about em. they work like a champ and dont stick out as far as other mounts I have seen, plus they are solid metal, not cheap plastic.(2 of those for sale too!)
The middle pic just shows the direction the R Surround is aimed. After many measurements I was able to get the L&R surrounds on the same exact plane, and aimed in the same direction. In the end I was definitely impressed with how much better the rears sounded, versus when I had them sitting on folding chairs before I even had couches.(during the homemade woodstand days.) LOL

And Lastly, My setup as it stands presently. This most recent pic has the Samsung BDP1500, as well as the Sanus Walmart speaker stands I got to get rid of those damn home made wood stands. But these are soon to be replaced by Sanus SF30's in Black and Silver. Also I usually keep the grills on my DT's, but I had removed them to clean em, and wipe down the Speakers, and forgot to toss em on b4 pics.. besides looks nice with em off.

well thats all for now, hope you enjoyed em.
more to come soon once i get the stands, and a Denon AVR, although really not much too see in the way of pics any how.
Thats a sweet setup triple x, u use the 1000s for the surrounds or 800s?

Thats the exact same stand i use too Btw haha

i have the Sammy A650 52" 120hz LCD tho, i had a 50" DLP on it back then a year ago.

So I'm another one looking for a speaker set. Fortunately for all of you, my parents are already running a Def Tech system with a Denon receiver (1908 i believe), so it shouldn't take too much convincing to get me to purchase one as well. It sounds great.

I've been riffling through this thread (probably read about 30 pages today) and I'm thinking that for my setup, it would probably be best for me to get 4xPM800's and a PC1000.

I'm in an apartment and the area I'll be watching movies is more or less 8Wx12L, but opening to the rest of the apartment. I'm living on the bottom floor, so I won't have any issues bothering neighbors and haven't figured out which sub I want. I'm getting the Denon AVR-1909, no if's and's or but's about it.

First, sub suggestions would be great. Second, the 800's/PC1000 should be more than enough, right?

T-X, great to see your setup, VERY NICE. The place looks great nice sofa and exellent wiring, I'm still getting hell for my wires.

I did review all your other photo's on that site and again great setup, that TV makes me very jellous. I wish I would let myself sell mine TV and get an upgrade, I would like to get that 65" Laser TV, but I think the your HL67A750 will be my next.

Don't tell the wife

Nice to hear your pointed in the right direction, your parents taught you well So, what are your parents running DT wise?

8's and the PC1000 with the 1909 will be great and way more than enough, the 1909 will give you that Dynamic EQ so you can enjoy the bass and any volume.

As for subs, what kind of money can you afford? You don't need a monster for that size room but you should not get an cheap-O either. You will move in time, and why upgrade your sub if you don't have too. If you do get a bigger sub and have neighbor issues, you can buy a product called Subdue that is suppose to help keep the neighbor's happy without loosing the bass from your system.

Honestly, I think they're running 4x800's with a PC1000, and a the matching 1000 sub. I was initially thinking about going with 4xPM1000's and the PC2000, but after reading alot of the comments, reviews, it sounds like that will just over power the space that I have available and it will just cost more without actually having much improvement.

As for the cost, I was hoping to keep the entire system under 2k (preferably around 1500). From the sounds of it, ABT is by leaps and bounds the best place to go for getting Definitive Tech gear cheaply, but even paying msrp, that leaves at least 500 for the sub.

Hey X,

I brought home the sammy bdp1500 on black friday and returned it unopened to BB when my wife found the Sony BDP-S350 for the same sale price at the BB the next town over. I experienced not one hiccup when watching the wall-e blu-ray (bitsreamed) on my Denon 1909. Great pics btw.

Plex i want your opinion, is there a differene in sound quality between using the 800s for the surrounds or the 1000s for the surrounds?

I think the upgrade bug hit me out of nowhere LMFAO and i didnt even get to test my speakers yet(well its all hooked up but its not calibrated and i didnt watch any blueray or anything.. ) (god furniture didnt come yet, should be here anyday now.. )

Save your money, if there maybe was a difference it would be very slight and not worth the extra cash. Play with your toys before you change anything yet. You could scratch that upgrade itch by adding a set of di-poles to your system to fill in any voids in the room you think you may have.

How Mr eD big sub doing?

Save your money the 8's & 1000 is great. You might want to check out 6th ave for DT prices if you include the 1909. Try to see if you get a better deal for the group (speakers and AVR). Also, you know about using monoprice.com to get all of your cables. right?

Let me do a little research on sub's for that ~$500 range, do you have any preferences on what sub you want? BTW we will find you a sub that will make your parents (dad) very jealous.

I'll definitely take a look at 6th ave for prices, if nothing else to bargain with the ABT people. I'm guessing they are another company I should be calling directly?

Monoprice I had never heard of before coming on these boards, but from the reputation here alone, I plan on buying cables there. From the sounds of it 14 gauge will be more than enough. Any suggestions on cabling? And are banana plugs a must for these speakers?

I'm new to the home audio game, so I don't know much about subs. I guess would like something that matched fairly well with the 800's and the Sammy 46a650 I have. But this isn't a must and I'm not even sure how feasible that would be.

Thanks for all the help

thanks man.. I use 800's in the rear remember.. you commented last week on agreeing that the 800's in the rear were just fine and that the 1000's would be to big or heavy in our size rooms for rear wall mounting. ring a bell?

yeah i was looking into the SonyBD350 but didnt know that BB had it for the same price. I would have rathered that cause then i could slap it on my BB card instead of my visa.. LOL

but at any rate, I am happy with my PS3 as a BD player, but was just curious to try a stand alone and compare. I have yet to do it really, but plan on it before returning the BD-P1500.

I wish I would let myself sell mine TV and get an upgrade, I would like to get that 65" Laser TV, but I think the your HL67A750 will be my next.

Don't tell the wife

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah I LOVE my 67" Sammy. look at the first pics i posted above where it was just the 61". behind the tv on the left and right you can actually see the edges of the fireplace mantle poking out. then in the pics with the 67 you can barely just see them. shows what a big difference the extra 6 inches really is.

yeah i have to fix the wiring up a tad bit.. the jacket on the left surround is tacky looking. I thought about wall plates behind the rear surrounds, but I didnt wanna put something that big and eye catching there. Instead im searching for some small black grommets I can slide over the wire that can pop inside the wall and sit flat on its surface.
as for the couches/furniture.. man i love it. I do have an issue with the sofa stuffing not wearing/breaking in properly but just need to call and have them come out to look and possibly replace it. I will say this.. They are actually TOO comfortable.. I have actually had a problem falling asleep during movies since i got them because they are so soft and comfortable. no bs. lol
p.s.
I posted the pics of the SM350's being tested JUST FOR YOU PAL!

Off hand i don't have another site but you might want to see if BB will deal, worth a try.

14AWG is fine, you don't have to get plugs but it is much easier to deal with these speakers with them and they are monoprice affordable. Plus if friends come over it looks cool you went the extra step to get banana plugs. I got both of these, read the reviews for each, http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 or http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...t=1#largeimage you can run wire from bottom and out the side, and trim off overhang.

I try to post something tomorrow night about some sub's for you to look over. You don't need to worry about matching the speakers when you buy a quality sub (we will try to match appearance). A quality sub can go with any set of speakers, but a lesser quality sub is limited to the speakers it was made for, If you look through these threads you find many sub's are not the same brand as the speakers. A quality sub can make poor speakers sound much better, can you imagine what your DT's will sound like with that quality sub? Don't worry I'll come up with a few sub's in the $325-$525 range.

Take a look at these, the eD have a great sub's and well in your range lamonsasa has an eD sub, maybe he can add a comment or two.

Elemental design MSRP range 4 under $475
http://www.edesignaudio.com/index.php?cPath=2_41

AV123 $399
http://**********/component/option,co...,39/Itemid,37/

SVS Sound $399 to $499
http://svsound.com/products-sub-box-10nsd.cfm

Now what is going to be tough to deal with is the fact you may have to buy your sub without ever hearing it. I know that is hard to deal with, I got my SVS based on 6-9 months of reading everything i could find about SVS sub and the model i wanted, I even went to many other sites just to confirm what i read here. I'm sold on SVS, but eD and some models of AV123 were just too new for me to find much about. Different story now. look them over tell me if any strike your fancy.
