Definitive Technology ProCinema Series 600/800/1000 (or 60/80/100) Thread - Page 2

I just picked up 4 Pro Monitor 800's and a Pro Center 1000. I will be wanting to get a sub soon, and I am looking at the Pro Sub 1000. Good choice?

I purchased the ProCinema 1000 system (4 PM1000, PC1000, ProSub1000) about a month ago and have been very pleased with the system, both on movies and music. The ProSub1000 is great, small footprint (for WAF), and it definitely provides a deep bass you feel without any distortions. The volume knob on the side does get adjusted between movies (louder) and music (softer).

I have seen other posts where some folks have upgraded the PC1000 to the PC2000 center speaker. I get good clear dialoge with the PC1000 now and have a tough time justifying more money for moving up to the PC2000. I know it would be good to match drivers across the front but is there really a significant difference to be heard between the PC1000 with dual 4.5" drivers and the PC2000 with dual 5.25" drivers? I would appreciate information on a direct comparison of these two center speakers if there is anyone out there who actually did a direct comparison.

I was thinking about picking up the procinema 600 at BB..

I went over the room dimensions with the 'knowledgeable' sales rep.

My family room is ~20' x 14' x 9' and is confluent with my kitchen..

In addition the TV is 65' sony rear projection that is about 5 years old.. I am not going to upgrade the Tv..

The rep thought that given the dimensions of the room and the size of the TV that he was essentially suggesting that I go with the Procinema 800 series which will be about $300 more..something about the sub and center being better and stronger with such a big TV and viewing area..

Is he right about this or will the 600 suffice?
I am also concerned that the 800 speakers will be too big since I have to mount them on the ceiling..

What if I went with the 800 center/sub and keep the ceilings at 600?

any thoughts?

Wahoo..I have listened to the 600 and like the sound, but obviously my home is acoustically challenged compared to Magnolia..

Right now I have my Polk PSW12 sub wired with the speaker level inputs and then have the cables running from the sub speaker level outs to my Pro Monitor 800's. The frequency response on the Monitors is 57Hz-30kHz, and the response on the sub is 33Hz-160Hz. Is it correct to assume that I should have the Low Pass filter knob(crossover) on the sub set around 57-60Hz? From what I have researched you want to set the crossover at the bottom end of your speaker response.

DefTech recommends the PM800s to be crossed at 120Hz. You can go a little higher or lower depending on room, setup and taste but nowhere near as low as 57Hz. DefTech is very 'generous' on their freq specs. The low end repsonse is not -3dB or -6dB like many speaker manufacturers use. It's more like -12dB or more.

I just ran the Avia set up with my PM600's and a Radio Shack SPL meter. I initially had them crossed over at 80hz, had to raise that to 110hz to fill some of the holes in the frequency range.

Thanks for the help guys. I had actually called up both Polk and Definitive. The Definitive rep said that 90-100 should be good, but I will take your advice and go 110-120, then make adjustments from there.

Hey everyone. i made the adjustments to my sub crossover, and I also made some adjustments to the speakers via my receiver. I used The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift HD-DVD as my test, and it was spectacular. Color me VERY impressed, and my friend that was screening the movie with me was in awe. The Pro Cinema set up might be the best bang for the buck system out there. If you are on the fence, I highly recommend going to your local dealer and give these a listen, I am so glad I went with them.

Also, I would recommend using the speaker level imputs on your sub instead of the standard "sub out" or "LFE out," Definitive said that this is the preferred method, even if you are not using a Pro Sub. In awhile, I will be upgrading to a 7.1 receiver, and then I will be adding two more speakers, perhaps I will get some Pro Monitor 1000's and make those my fronts.

I actually use both speaker inputs and LFE; which gives me extra boom for movies and less boom for music. A win/win situation!!!

Very carefully! The way I have it set up now is that they run under some carpet on the floor, and it is in a low traffic area. It is not as bad as you might think.

So I take it that you set your fronts to "large" in your receiver and leave the sub in the "on" position?

Yeah. Now that you mention it, that doesn't sound right. For some reason I was thinking I could only get the .1 through the sub cable, but not if my fronts are set to large, huh.
I haven't actually tested this since I calibrated, hence why I didn't notice. Oh well, looks like I'll have to lose the cable.

I'm def interested in these ProCinema 1000s. Where did you guys pick them up though? They aren't on the BB/Mag website, or many other websites for that matter.

I don't have the speakers put up yet and that is why I am here. Should I buy the wall brackets from DT or use a different brand? It looks like the center uses two or a single with two mounts. Anyone have information on this?

Can anyone suggest wire size and mounts for the 1000 series? I have my sub and center in so far and really like the way they sound. Do better mounts exist for the same or cheaper money?

I called Definitive today and they don't suggest their mounts for the 1000's. They told me to get the Omni Mount 10.0's. What is everyone using to support the center? I guess I could use two on it but just curious what everyone else is using.

Anyone go from the 1000 center to a 2000? Is it that much better? Also what are you using to mount your center in place?

intercooler, what size speaker wire did you get? i am thinking about getting a 100' spindle of 12 gauge from monoprice. we are about to have very similar setups as i have a 4665f and just bought an onkyo 605 which should be arriving on thurs. i am getting promonitor 1000's for my front left and right, but i am getting a procenter 2000 , and i will be using promonitor 800 for surrounds. i still havent decided on the sub yet. my local dealer is cutting about $200 off the price of my individual speakers so i am happy with that. we should keep in touch about our setups since they are so similar.

Good question on the wire! I was thinking about starting a thread on it to see if differences exist or how big to go. How are you mounting all your pieces? I kind of wish I would have gotten the plus system with the 2000 center but can't find info on if it is a big deal. I like the smaller footprint of the 1000 which is why I just rolled with it then. Now it looks like to buy the 2000 it is a seperate $350 piece alone and I don't know how much I can get out of my 1000.... maybe $150? Is the $200 upgrade worth it? As for the 4665F I don't know how you like yours but I love mine! I spent a lot of time before pulling the trigger on that one!

i am going to wall mount my 800's with some omnimounts , but i am not mounting the center or fronts. i am going to get stands for the fronts and rest the center on my middle shelf of my tv stand under the tv. as far as the 4665f, i also am enjoying mine alot. it has great picture.

I just pulled the trigger on a Def Tech Pro800 and a Onkyo 805. I listened to the 600 at BB(they had no 800) and decided the 800 would be a better purchase. These speakers rock. I just listened to Paradigm 90's and Klipsch Quintet 3 and also Polk 6880 today. Wife is out of town, so what better time to buy?

I bought them at ABT from Robert at ex:3768. They did not sell the 800 as a system but Robert put together an 800 system(4 800's ,1000 center and 800 sub) for less than I could buy an 600 system at BB. Free shipping and no tax! A no brainer,and no I don't work for them. Robert was good to work with that's why I include his name.

I currently have an old Bose lifestyle 12 system and it suxxxx. Never buy B*** again.

I'm about to order the 1000 plus system(with the matching 2000 center). After talking with a rep at a local boutique dealer I'm going to go with 16 gauge wire. He said to be weary of all the marketing crap when it comes to speaker wire. Basically you'll find alot of so called 12 gauge that may seem thicker, when indeed its just the plastic casing around the actual wire. So 16 gauge oxygen free is fine.

I'll be hooking this system up to a Rotel RSX 1056.

i've made enough this weekend to get my front two promonitor 1000's and i got my onkyo 605 on thurs! i will get the center 2000 and the two 800's after i work next weekend. this is my 1st home theater setup so i am very exited about having decent surround sound.

So I have just purchased 6 Pro Cinema 1000, a Pro Center 2000, and a Super Cube I. The receiver is the Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS. I am putting this into a 40' x 15' rec room w/a projector. Bar is going on one side, projector on the other, is this system going to do that room justice or do I look at other options (towers)???
