Lack of air flow in room causing PJ fan noise?

Hi, I've got an Optoma HD73 and it's driving me mad . The problem is that when it is ceiling mounted or held anywhere near the ceiling the fan whirs up and down. Optoma tell me it's an environmental problem - there's no air flow in my room. They may have a point - my 14' x 8' home cinema room is all double glazed and when I watch movies I do it with windows and door closed. Today is not a hot day and with the door open the pj was nice and silent, but when I closed the door to my room the PJ started whirring up and down again. I don't know whether another PJ such the Mitsubishi HC3100 would be as temperamental - I know that my previous HD72 wasn't. So my last resort before flogging it will be to mount a small (hopefully silent) fan a few inches from the PJ blowing air around it. Do you think this will work and are there any other options? This is apparently an environment rather than a PJ problem as Optoma say there's nothing wrong with the PJ.

I take it this is not a dedicated theater room? in any event it sounds like you need to deal with the air return to the room and better ventilation. Fan noise is only one problem you may have, projector shut down from overheating is a bigger one.

Canary_Jules, no need to flog it. I am not sure why hitting it with whips will help anything. I guess ease your frustration? You could build a nice tiny box with 3 sheets of drywall with 2 layers of Green Glue and enclose it as best as possible to dry and reduce the noise. ;-)

Just kidding, that would fry it. How willing are you to make adjustments to your room? Any pictures? Any HVAC returns nearby? Ah you're from the UK. I see, you want to Sell it not flog it! Ahh.... You have no HVAC either then. Sorry dude, you're screwed.

Seriously though pictures might help.... Plus we are all suckers here for pictures!

It is just a question of temperature. My 300U is mounted near an air vent in a room over the garage. Since it is a FROG it tends to get warm up there. When the room is warmer I'll heare the fan step up to higher speed until the AC kicks on and cools the room down.

Is it possible to move the projector down further from the ceiling as heat rises? Guess it probably isn't easy with a DLP's fixed picture drop. A small fan near the projector may or may not make a difference. You could see about installing a ceiling fan in the room to get the air circulated and get the higher temperature air near the ceiling better distributed through out the height of the room.
