LOL

Indeed. Minor problem.

Bottom end laptops might not, but it's not going to add much to the cost to add HDDVD on anything else. You can get the drives retail from China for $100, so we can just guess what Toshiba might pay. Maybe $60 in 100,000 bulk? Not much to a laptop's cost.

Give it 12 months and they'll cost barely more than a DVD-ROM, so it makes perfect sense for Toshiba.

Dell quote from 2005

Quote:

At New York "Concierge-Class" Consumer Product Launch, Dell Affirms Blu-ray is Better - by Richard Doherty

At the conclusion of Dell Computer's New York Media Center PC and HDTV Display product launch event, CEO Michael Dell's last press and analyst question was one he seemed to be waiting for: a clarification of Dell's Blu-ray HD media commitment, announced at the CES show 20 months ago.

"Marge Costello with CE Online News-Since Microsoft and Intel have thrown their weight behind HD DVD and Dell supports Blu-ray... how will you implement it in your computers next year...and will you do it next year?"

Michael Dell: "We'll implement it the same way we do DVD....Eh...I have a question, let me ask you all a question..How many of you know which ehhh... version of Windows was the first one to support a DVD drive?"

The audience shouts out...Windows 98? Windows 95?

Michael Dell: "Any other guesses?"

"The answer is NONE!"

The audience enjoys a hearty laugh...

"...Because if you take the standard Windows off the shelf - there IS no DVD codec - in Windows, because manufacturers have always provided their own codecs ..eh..to work with media, such as DVD - or Blu-ray - so we'll continue to do that."

Whenever things like this get posted in the HD Media section, hddvd supporters jump in here to downplay the news.
Any news to help bluray, whether small or large is good in my books.
I don't care if its Universal goes neutral or McDonalds announces a blu-ray happy meal which includes a bluray disc of RonaldMcDonalds adventure in Cheesburger land.

Any news which causes more awarness of Blu-ray and ingrains into the general public that BD is truly the successor to DVD, then its all good in my book.

Sad...but very true unfortunately.

Dell is a bottom feeder PC brand that will likely be bought out in 5 years.

Toshiba doesn't go to China to buy HD DVD drives - they make their own via TSS - Toshiba Storage. They have both a reader and a read/write HD DVD drive(s)

By Toshiba, of course.

Isn't Dell the number 1 selling PC in the U.S.?
If so, this is fairly big news for BD IMO.

C'mon man. What happened to you? You used to at least try to come up with valid arguments against pro Blu-ray topics. Now you just sound dumb.

Why isn't this on the Blu Ray Player Forum?
Hey stewart,

do you have to reply to every post in every thread?

BTW, how is the weather in South Florida?

LOL...you guys "don't" follow computing do you? It's all good...as I've said I have
competed against Dell selling HP and IBM in desktops, notebooks and servers. Dell lost the crown in 2006

HP is the #1 vendor and it pulling away. IBM is probably going to pass Dell but will do so based on their servers/Blades because they sold their desktop/laptop to Lenovo.

Oh I admit I'm biased against Dell. I've competed them so I don't give them any quarter. When Dell doesn't hit their numbers ...I love it. When HP extends their lead over Dell every quarter...I love it. When I look at Dell's financials and see they are worth half that of Apple ...I love it.

I don't need a valid argument. Everyone in the industry knows that Dell's hit the wall and is in flux. They still make a decent computer but it's doubtful that they will every be able to take the crown back. Every few weeks HP is acquiring a company and growing stronger. The new Proliant servers are nice. HPs newest Blade system (C-class) is better than anything Dell can come up with.

I dont' think you guys understand what is going on in the computing industry. HP and IBM will continue to pound Dell into the dirt. Both have market caps twice that of Dell. HP sells both HD DVD and Blu-ray so Dell has absolutely no advantage. HP just acquired Voodoo computers for high end gaming that match or exceed Dell XPS.

Again...don't be surprised in 5 years or less if Dell gets bought out.

Hey Man,

They moved my Toshiba laptop HD DVD drive thread to the hardware Forum, when someone suggested it - well why not this one? I am getting the opinion that AVS mods are favoring BRD.

It's frikkin' pouring right now - the daily thunderstrom

^ LOL, that's some funny s**t!

Looks like my next laptop purchase won't be from Dell. That's too bad because I like my current Dell laptop. However if they have HDMI output (or DVI for a DVI-HDMI cable) then that would be cool.

LG is suing Quanta for patent infringement over DVD read/write royalties. Quanta makes, under contract; Dell, Apple, HP and Sony laptops - they are seeking an injunction:

They moved a thread exclusively about HD DVD hardware to the HD DVD hardware thread? Shocking!

Why tell me about it? I'm not a moderator.

It's simple: Go to the first post, click on that little red triangle to the left that says "Report Post", and calmly mention why.

Think about the post you made which I responded to, I was just calling it out to make it even for both sides
