NJ Stores?

Anybody know any good home theater stores in central NJ? I want someplace that I can go to listen to a decent pair of $600 or so speakers. Alot of people tell me to go with deftech...but I've never heard them and I'm hesitant on buying speakers I never heard....and I can't find a place that carries them.

Thanks!

Best Buy carries them - just make sure your BB has a Magnolia branch. You can demo just about all their models there. For $600 though, you're looking not only at base model but probably the old base model. For DT - you need to move up to about $800+ unless you are just looking for 2 stereo speakers and not a 5.1 setup.

Also - isn't 6th ave electronics and Nobody beats the Wiz up in central NJ also? They aren't high end HT stores but I'm sure they have $600 speaker sets.

No right now I'm just looking at a pair of front speakers...I have a 5.1 polk system right now and I'm going to upgrade individual pairs over time. I just got an SVS sub that's not here yet and now I'm replacing the fronts, rears and center will be later.

I went to 6th ave and they didn't have any of the deftech bookshelf speakers...they had some floor standing ones though.

The Wiz went under years ago. A few old locations became "Electronics Expo".

Didn't know that. I was born and raised in Livingston but haven't been back there consistently in 10 years. Don't tell me next that Grand Union is no longer in business?!

haha, i think those are Stop & Shops now. in other news they have also ceased production of the Model T Ford.

there is some sort of audio store in Denville (or maybe rockaway) NJ. i think they have less variety now though. think somewhere near Bridgewater is another place. i don't know much about the answer yo your question though.

There's an Electronics Expo on Route 18 and another in Woodbridge. Both have pretty demonstration rooms, but according my parents (based on my system), sound like crap. But you might as well take a look since audio shops in NJ seem few and far between.

6th Ave. is on Route 18 as well, and seems like a place worth visiting if you are into Paradigm...but the last time I went there, they were incapable of even turning their audio systems on...

There's also a place called Hi-Def of Freehold, which I haven't been to yet, carrying higher-end stuff like Rotel.

PS: Deftechs are awesome if want colored sound and have no respect for the original intention of the sound mixer.

for def tech, try monmouth stereo in red bank

they are a small personal stereo shop (not a large chain)

Two good Hi-fi stores in NJ:

http://www.audioconnect.com/

http://audionexus.com/

Between those two stores, around your price range you can audition B&W, Epos, Vandersteen, JM Lab-Focal, PSB and Revel.
