Alright, I finally decided to flip over my Miami Vice combo disc (which is the only disc I have that has never worked correctly) to look at the physical side of the disc containing the HD director's cut of the movie. I saw something which in my own opinion is not normal and looks to be a replication issue. What I saw was an imprint almost as if some machine responsible for moving discs off the assembly line has left a physical impression on the disc. Not only that but when I hold the disc at a certain angle, the reflecting light reveals what looks like what I can only describe as a blob-like but transparent circular distortion underneath the immediate layer of plastic where data should be. The area around the edge of the disc is somewhat normal looking but the rest of it is covered by this blob-like distortion that is only fully visible when viewed at an angle but somewhat visible when looked at from directly above. It's appearance reminds me of soap film and how it reflects and distorts light and colors. None of my other discs look anything like this so I don't think it's normal. Has anyone else seen something similar with their HD-DVD discs? I know the disc is perfectly clean but the problems I have had with playback are identical to those I've read about on other forums with this disc and other Universal HD-DVDs like Children of Men. Now the add-on will play the first parts of the movie perfectly but if it accesses the movie past certain chapters it locks up and the drive keeps trying to read it over and over. I think I have a defective disc.

I take extremely good care of my movie collection, and I don't lend anything out anymore, so when I pay for a new movie on DVD, HD DVD, etc. I want it perfect.
