Good speaker system

I have recently bought the Yamaha 5960 receiver, and am wondering what kind of speakers I should buy. I have the Yamaha NS-BP4500 series speakers right now and am wondering if these are good or mediocre. I would also like to know if I should keep this 6.1 setup or move onto the 7.1 category, I read the "Should I stay with 6.1 or 7.1" and coudnt really come to an understanding too much bickering between 2 people. If you have a good 7.1 or 6.1 speaker system right now and think its really good then can you please state what it is, I really want the best sound I could get from this receiver. THank you

They are going to ask you about your room, your input requirements, your budget and ask you if you have auditioned any speakers and which ones you liked and why. Based on the cost of this system, I don't imagine you'll get tons of feedback.

Your question about which to buy is just too open ended.

It's like you asking which car you should buy. I say BMW but another may say Subaru, and another is going to say Pontiac Solstice.

Well, Ive seen the feedback for the Athens and am looking at those , but I really like the Yamaha line so if you have any info about the yamaha line of Theatre speakers then Im all ears. I have a pretty square room and am looking for some pretty good speakers.

Bookshelf's, floorstanders?
Budget?
What your expectation are?
Room Size? Openings to other rooms?

5.1, 6.1, 7.1 are all depending on budget which would give better performance.

You have said repeatedly, here and elsewhere, that you want Yamaha speakers which are barely passable speakers at best, you also have a square room which is BAD. If Yamaha is what you want find someone that sells them and pick what you like they won't sound good in a square room anyway. You also said you don't want to be told to read or to do your own homework so buy what you want, you will anyhow.

I didnt know that Yamaha's speakers were that bad. I also said since I heard that having a square room is bad I was going to make the room bigger by combining 2 rooms. I never said I didnt want to be told or read on what to buy, I dont even know when I said that seems like you didnt understand what I said hmmm. I have read a lot on this forum maybe a years worth and I barely made this account here, So I have done my own homework so I dont know what your getting at. I also said that if their are other speakers that are good other then the Athens everyone talks about then I'm all ears.

ON topic though I want the left and right speakers to be floorstand and then the back speakers to be bookshelf, I have the money to get whatever I need so I was hoping to come on here and get some good advice instead of getting attacked because I dont have a big number of posts but whatever.

Take it easy and don't worry about him.

You really need to state a budget for speakers.

It is not about the number of posts. You had a lot to say in the dedicated theater forum section, everyone told you to read, read, read then ask specific questions as your questions were very wide open. and yes over there you did say you could combine two rooms, but above you state that you have a square room and want good sounding speakers.
If you have read a years worth than you should have picked up more info at least enough to ask specific focused questions. As for what speakers are good or bad, only you can answer what sounds good to you and to do that you have to audition them, even then they will sound a lot different in your room, but it is better than no audition. A thousand different people here could recommend a thousand different speaker set ups, you still have to listen and decide yourself.
I am not trying to attack you but you don't seem to want to listen to what people do tell you, because it is not what you want to hear.

If by Athens you mean Athena speakers then you are considering some nice sounding budget speakers. Currently the Athena line is being discontinued as the company has been sold. As a result these speakers are now available at significant discounts. I purchased a 5.0 system for my son a couple of months ago and he was more than happy with the speakers.

You really should give a budget when asking which speakers members would recommend however, because obviously you can spend anywhere from $200 to $200,000 for a complete system. With that said a complete Athena 7.1 system shouldn't run you more than about $1,000 with shipping.

I see ... I guess I wont read his posts anymore then LOL. Yes the Athena speakers I already knew about seeing as how a lot of people here like them, I just wanted to know what other speakers out there rivaled or at least came close the the Athenas. I have a very big budget on these speakers since I do one thing at a time but off the top of my head I can spend 30,000. By the way is it better to build your own speaker system or buy a complete set?

30,000 what? Pence? Pesos?

If you've got a speaker budget of $30,000 and are laboring between the Athenas and the Yamahas....

Yikes.

actually, i'd like to retract this recommendation since you're not sure what sound you're looking for. best advice is to go listen and talk to sales people in both mid to high-end audio stores. get to know the lingo. check out the gear and components. bring your cd's!! if you want to do it right, build it slowly. buy a really good set of towers and a center channel that sounds good to YOU. any average speaker can be substituted for rear surrounds. your main center stage is always going to be the fronts. if you need more power, upgrade or add an amp. buy a subwoofer if you need/want more bass. jumping directly into a 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 setup may sound good but what do you have to compare to? nothing really.. everyone has a listening preference and it's all at different volumes. it'll take you awhile and a hefty pocket book to get the right sounds into your own environment. you'll be doing alot of buying and selling if you really get into it. save your $30k because it'll be gone in no time. eeeek...

HAHA, yes I've seem to have found what I was expecting, people putting in their opinion's but not really giving out information. I do admit the Receiver is pretty cheap I really dont know a lot about audio setups, Im not an audiophile which is why I came here in the first place hehe. Yes I have it in Pesos haha you were right on! I was wondering which speakers to get since I found a receiver I really liked somewhere else on the site, which I will use for this speaker setup. I bought the Yamaha Receiver for my nephew (Bday gift dont tell him LOL) so dont make rash decesions on what I'm doing but then again I dont know why I stated it, guess I was sleepy. But hey dont worry about it I got all the Info I need now since someone helped and put up some good speakers. Goodbye and thanks for the little help you guys gave me bye. Before I go though how can I be a troll when this is my what 7th post??? LOL thats kinda funny when you think about it.

Well that was all very amusing. He has 30K to spend but wants Yamaha and complains on the other forum about bookshelves that cost $500.
He never did say why he liked that Yamaha so much but he admits he knows little about audio setups, but then discounts everything anyone tells him.

Ah well Keeps life interesting I guess.
