Dynamic Voulme seems to be working GREAT !! no more Blasting commericals during a TV show.

5308 allows Video convert (Realta processing)per source

Color /Contrast does nothing if you are using HDMI

Hope that helps

Yes, this worked just fine. Many thanks for the help.

Uploaded the latest update and everything seems fine. The Dynamic Volume is a welcome addition. It seems to work well for keeping the commercials volume difference to a reasonable level.

Audyssey after firmware upgrade Denon 5308
L -3.0 R -3.0
C -3.5
SL -2.5 SR -1.0
Sub -12.0

Xcross
front 60
center 60
surr 120
LFE 120

Heres my issue :
I get the -12 doing the calibration with sub vol at 12 oclock. If I turn down my sub so its not -12 I have to turn it down to about 3 oclock and I get -6 (seems ok for movies it must compensate somehow)but at 3oclock if I listen to music it has no sub at all as its to low

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Applying the current fix wipes out all stored settings, correct? Could someone post a link to a post the details how to save settings such as the Audessy stuff?

Thanks in advance.

Executing the firmware doesn't change your settings.

I just went through setup and my sub was set to THX sub for some reason. So turned it off and re-ran set at 4 oclock level ( 4 out of 12 vol level) and I got -5 for the sub. So i'm not sure if THX was messing with it or not.

Everything seems to be working fine now. Sound is outstanding

Apologies in advance if this should be asked in the HT setup thread but since it pertains to the 5308CI I will start here.

I do not own a subwoofer but am thinking of adding one. I only plan on adding one sub but page 30 in the manual doesn't seem that helpful, unless I'm missing something. If I was to add a SW like the one in the attachment, which SW connection(s) would I use on the 5308? Would I connect to SW 2 & 3 on the 5308 for right & left? If I only connect to SW1, which connection do I use on the powered sub?

Thanks

You'd just run the sub output (sw1) to the line level input on the SVS sub. It's a mono sub, so it doesn't matter which input (L/R) you use since they're summed together anyway. If it makes you feel more secure, a lot of people use left for mono, for no particularly meaningful reason except herd mentality.

And if you're running audyssey(I hope!), you'd turn the crossover on the sub off, and the highpass filter off as well.

If you add additional subwoofers, then you'd want to add them to SW2, etc sub outs on the receiver, and it audyssey would ping and EQ each individual sub differently for its particular location and response, which is a very very nice advantage of the multiple sub-outs on the 5308. You don't want to connect multiple sub outs to the single subwoofer, that would probably cause some strange results since audyssey would think it's pinging two different subs and eqing it twice, and then that all gets summed together again, that's no good.

Use subwoofer one on the denon that is the black one.
Use low level input left or right on the svs sub.
I have the denon and the svs pb13 sub.

Now all I have to do is decide which sub I want...

You mean the PB 13-Ultra? That thing looks like a beast. How are you liking it with the 5308?

Thanks

I have a PB13 Ultra and 5308 paired with Polk's. They will shake my concrete foundation, if I ask them to, without a single pop. Good thing I nailed the house togeather myself. The only con: it takes 2 Linebackers to move the SVS.

Yes the PB-13 ultra. It is the best sub I have heard it beats subs at £4000 in this country

Nice to hear you are enjoying your 5308/SVS U13 combo. I have two U13's on order for the HT. I am looking to improve the bass for music. I'm currently running a homemade sub with two 15" drivers /4-18" passive radiators and about 1800 watts from a separate 6ch amp. I don't know the SVS U13's will top the output I have now but I'm looking for midbass and musical performance. Has anyone used the 5303 in SW2 to EQ two U13's? Just wondering how audyssey worked on the room correction?

It went really well. I did it via wireless as I have a very strong signal. The dynamic vol is a needed upgrade as changing channels was often a real surprise with respect to volumne. Thus far I am very pleased with the Denon 5308CI.

Any recommendations on where to buy the 5308 from? I'm told unless I purchase a 3 year warranty from the online store that Denon does not honor the standard 1 year manuf. warranty as described here: http://www.usa.denon.com/Warranty.asp

Who told you you had to purchase a 3 year warranty?? The warranty on the 5308 is two years, not 1 year. You are not required to buy a 3 year warranty if you purchase it from an authorized online retailer.

Call AVS - that's where I got it, great price and service.

It looks like Denon approved dealers have to sell it at $5500, I'm seeing it for $1500 less at other online stores, but they can't give the warranty...what to do...

They do not have to sell it MSRP but they have to advertise it at MSRP

Call them for the REAL prices

The GUI on my 5308 disappeared again. It happened before, and the only way I got it back was to hard reset the entire thing. Has anyone found an easier workaround for this besides going thru that extreme step? I wonder if I should upgrade the firmware? The problem with that is some of the threads i have read about it seems to indicate the new firmware causes some problems of its own.

Try power cycling the receiver using small power button.

Yes.

Thanks FilmMixer. I just went to Denon's website, put in my serial number and it came up with a window saying there was no upgrades for my unit. I am assuming I must be up to date on the firmware.

Use the GUI to go to Option Setup, scroll up to Firmware update. Now you can check for any new updates and download if available.

Has anyone messed about with the custom IR commands published on the Denon site? I spotted there's one called "HDMI MONITOR SELECT", has anyone programmed this and sent it to the Amp? Does it switch HDMI outputs, give an on screen dialog or maybe send an additional command to pick one?

Cheers.

Is there a menu setting for Audyssey Dynamic Volume to toggle it on/off or is it always on?

Mine is gone too. Checked all the settings and I think it might have occurred after I docked an iPod Touch in the Denon dock. Any help would be appreciated. What a pain to have to go back and do all the Audyssey again.

Denon customer service was useless. They told me to do a hard reset and then I'd have to send it in if that didn't work. Just for reference, MSRP on my Denon $5500 (no in home service!!!!)... MSRP on my Pioneer Elite $6,500 (in home service for 2 years!!!)
