On link from bristolshow: Denon to launch the AVP-A1HD THX Ultra2 AV pre/processor

They are launching both - the pre pro that you mention above and the AVC-A1HD (5308 in the US) at the same event. I did not bother to paste the whole of the email from the dealer into the message but this is what it states.

Cheers

What is the model number going to be for the US Pre/Pre?

AVP-A1HDci and POA-A1HDci.

Black for the US and premium silver for everyone else, which is not fair as I live in the UK and I want black!

There is a thread on it here.

Courtesy of Secrets, here's a Denon press release announcing that the AVR-5308CI is now shipping.
Received confirmation from Crutchfield this afternoon that the new ETA for the 5308CI is January 22, 2008. Will post futher updates as I get them.

My salesman may regret me having his home and cell phone numbers. But, he's at work right now, so...
Kind of a minor "issue", but will the 5308 have a higher end volume knob than the 4308 and 3808? It appears Denon switched the knob (along with the source knob) to a cheaper plastic material vs. the "machined steel" (or whatever it is) on past products.

So will the flagship have a "higher end" volume and source knob?

Does anyone have the Denon AVR-5308CI on order??
I should have it by Thursday afternoon
Bandali, did Crutchfield get them today? I have had one on order with them for a few weeks and haven't heard anything.

Thanks,

TC

TC, Crutchfield called today, requesting a new credit card to charge (they said they will only charge when unit is in...checked my bank account and they already withdrew the funds.. so must be in. They informed me that they were in today and are being filled on order date.. online it states that my order is being processed today... I should have a tracking number later tomorrow and will post updated info.

Bandali,

Will you provide a detailed review of the AVR-5308CI sometime after you've setup this beast?

I am very interested in purchasing the Denon's new flagship receiver. I am a happy owner of the AVR-5803A receiver which does not have HDMI inputs nor HBR audio decoding.

Thanks,
Dave C.

Thanks Bandali. I talked to my rep at Crutchfield. They only received a few and you must have been one of the lucky ones to get one. I'm still waiting on the next shipment, no ETA yet.

Well all day yesterday it was showing online that my order was ready for shipping. I was informed this morning, that despite charging my credit card, my Denon 5308 was not shipped, and that Crutchfield had no update on availablity.

i actually have tracking info for mine, so it's coming i think?
Drick, check and make sure you have two tracking numbers.. one for paperwork and the other for the Denon 5308.. the weight on the paperwork should be 1 lb and the weight on the Denon 5308 for 63 lbs..

I'm trying to make a decision between between 4308 and 5308's european equivalent AVC-A1HD.

On the video side 5308/A1HD would have the advantage with the Realta processor. But browsing the user's guide was a bit downer for me too. I used to have Calibre's Vantage-HD VP that had the same processor (or it's predecessor) and there's definately lots of cool things that could be done with it. Maybe some will be added later via firmware updates. I'd really appreciate wider color controls (to fix JVC-RS1's oversaturation etc.). Of course it can't have everything and it's not fair to compare it to standalone VP...

At first I'll be running a pair of Dynaudio Focus 220 speakers and a SUB300 (I'll add more later). Do you think 5308/A1HD would make a noticeable difference with stereolisteling (I know, it's hard to speculate)? At least it has better components (DACs etc.) and overall stronger audiophile design inside.

Check with your sources today. My supplier just got their first wave (as expected, their numbers are limited...single digit) today, and called with our first one (which has been on order for months)...and will ship today.

Good luck to all

Even though it shows out of stock, it is now being shown on Crutchfield's web site

Manuals on the Denon site if this hasn't already been posted.

And they incorrectly stated that the 5308ci features Burr Brown PCM-1791 DAC's under the "Hands on Research" section. I hate it when they do that

Finally!

It's interesting that Crutchfield's photos of the back panel don't match the photos or manual on Denon's USA site. Several of the connectors are in different locations, but nothing appears to be missing.

Edit: The unit in the Crutchfield photo has a "Denon Show Stock" sticker on the back and doesn't appear to have the UL logo, so perhaps it's a prototype.

My salesman said that the Denon Rep told him that delivery was now into February.

Bandali, Crutchfield debting your credit card without having the merchandise in their grimey little mitts is totally unacceptable. I'd be on the phone having a little chat with them.

Anyway, the only thing we can do is to continue to lament... and wait.

Edited to add: I asked my Sales Rep who I had to kill to get my receiver.
My source at Crutchfield said that they only received a couple units on the first shipment. They are supposed to receive more on January 29th. My source has been very reliable in the past. For what it's worth.

does anyone other than me find it odd that there are separate antenna connections for analog and digital terrestial radio tuners? why would they do this considering that the antennas are the same?

Same as the Z-11, but different than the Onkyo's with HDRadio.
