1408 feedback

Just a straight up creepy film. Not a complicated plot. The commercials get it right. John Cusack is a writer who investigates supposed haunted hotels and locations. the movie rushes him into the room but not before we get a very convincing argument from sam jackson's charectar. Once in teh room the proverbial **** just starts piling higher and higher and higher. When the think the film goes one way it doesn't and when it goes the otehr it will make you second guess what your seeing just like Cusacks charectar. Loved it on the tech side the surround was used very well not overdone but the audio really helped.

Thanks for the review. Im thinking about catching this this afternoon. Getting pretty decent reviews on rottentomatoes right now...

Saw this last night and even though it had it's moments I never got totally immersed in the movie.
It has some nice twists and it kept me wondering at times but.......
Worth a rental but I wouldnt recommend spending the cash for a big screen viewing.

1408 is the 2nd short story in the audiobook collection titled Blood and Smoke, by Stephen King, released in 2000. In 2002, it was reprinted in written form as the twelfth story in the compilation Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales.

In my opinion this movie is very good however it's not the best King's book movie adaptation. I was hoping for more. The story line is good but there is some holes in the plot. The book is even better.

I went to this last night at random. Sam L Jackson doesn't disappoint and Cusack does great.

There were a few things in this movie that could have been better, and others that left me in disbelief that something/someone would even do that to a person....

A few parts are gutwrenching, others downright terrifying, some borderline cheesy.

Plot twisted nicely, and not overly confusing. Good character development and even a few laughs thrown in.

Remind me of Silent Hill 4 almost...

I thought it was worth seeing in theaters for the surround sound alone. That made the movie.

I give it (3 and a half)

I caught 4 minutes of it after Die Hard and already loved it.

Saw it yesterday. I thought it was one of the better adaptations of a SK story. Cusack was great. Loved the cinematic shots and the sound was great...lots of surround activity going on...will make a great demo disc when the DVD releases.

I loved this movie. It works as expected as a fright film, but also pays off in other ways as well. Like the OP said, the plot isn't complicated, but there is indeed more to it then a guy stuck in a hotel room. Don't read anymore about it until you see it.

It just about all worked for me, and Cusack's performance (which is almost a one man show) is award-worthy.

Bumping the thread because the DVD is being released on Tuesday. It may be the best time I've had at the movies so far this year (see my post above), but I notice it's being released for rental at Blockbuster ONLY. And I'm sure not going there to rent it. I really hope this Blockbuster-exclusive deal really comes back to bite Weinstein in the @ss. I'm also going to be sure to purchase it on the secondary market only. Putzes.

Screw Blockbuster, Netflix is going have it. Thanks for the heads up.

What was the point of this story? I appreciated the acting by the leads, but there was simply no pay-off at all in this story. The hotel manager was very interesting, but when he appears briefly later in the film to toast the protagonist with that special drink, I was hoping for some insight that just wasn't even hinted at.

Why were any of the strange things happening? Are we to take SLJ's description ("It's an evil...room") as the sum total of the explanation?

What about the book, "Long Road Home"? I wanted to know something about that; they took the time to make us interested in that, but never gave any insight.

This movie had potential, but ended up being pointless.

The story was about cusacks charectar pure and simple. It's a charectar study film at it's heart and everything revolves around him. The ending is indeed ambiguous but it does have a point. The room is a plot device that explains this guys sad and terrible past that has led him to the room. The room is a catalyst it gives him every reasont o just kill himself and be free of his pain. And the ending fufills that question "what would you do if you had no reason to live and every reason to die?"

this movie was *way* overrated.

It was okay, but nowhere near as good as all the critics and imdb make it out to be.

I agree, it didn't do much for me. I mean, it wasn't *bad*, it was about what I expected it to be from the trailer. Borrowed from a friend, so didn't cost anything (I wasn't planning on renting it..)

I enjoyed it, but the ending did leave something to be desired.

I saw it again and liked it even more.

I think part of the horror of it is that he's not given the luxury of an explanation for everything.

Bingo!

I think the point of "The Long Road Home" was to show they he was once a writer who really had potential instead of writing horror hotel schlock. Besides,

it's an ironic title for someone who experienced the nastiness he did in the hotel room, and because of it ended up back home himself with his wife

Disappointing, disjointed, disassociative film with little to offer on any plane. Don't bother.
The only somewhat interesting parts were the "build up" and the twist or two near the end. Pretty much a waste of time.

Good for a rental. Based on the IMDB and rotten tomatoes rating, I was expecting more...
