I'm starting to wonder if SVS adjusted the roll off to take advantage of room gain.

Great pics also

Its funny god forbid UPS actually you know take care of tha packages in there care.

I'm suprised svs didn't send it you via freight and I agree I can't wait to hear what you have to say about them.
This is off topic but do you have to send the damaged speaker back? And if you do, do you pay shipping? But most importantly, how does it SOUND???
One of my towers' box was nastily damaged on the side, but I was lucky and the speaker nestled within was pristine. They are heavy -- one tower with box is over 70 lbs, my 7.0 setup totaled 350 lbs....

They sound wonderful, to me, but I've no good basis for comparison except they sound vastly better than the nOrhs they replaced....

(And I just learned last night about the driver upgrade available for pre-2006 16-46+s, so I've just ordered a couple of those. After that (all-new 7.0 and new drivers for the .1), really, that's it for a while!)

I was told they will be sending me a new one, with a shipping label at no cost to me.. They do whats right.. this is UPS's fault and I'm sure their insurance will pick up the tab on it...

First observations.....
I just got home from work, and have been running through some different types of music that I am extremely familiar with here, Nora Jones (Come Away With Me, Don't know Why), Ray Charles Duets (Fever - Natalie Cole, Here We Go Again - Nora Jones, You Don't Know Me - Diana Krall) Extremely Smooth, Transparent, just neutral... The imaging is out of this world, which I lend to the tweeters, I have never heard speakers this smooth before... Mid range and mid bass are just clean and clear, non accentuated or punchy in one or the other. I think there is magic in these tweeters, soft dome is smooth, missing nothing here... I can't tell you how many soft dome tweeters I have come across that it felt like someone put cotton in my ears.... The Scan Speak Air Circ's are balanced and true to their source. Turning my head from one side to another I get no differenciation in sound... My room is small here but the sound is just everywhere. The speakers are not placed optimally in my room right now (too close together), but I feel it will make little difference here. They don't seem to be effected by placement thus far. I'm waiting on a new dresser and my equipment will be moving to the basement to be hidden late this week or early next week, waiting on my 25ft HDMI chord.

These speakers are extremely heavy, the Center Channel is a bit to lug around and it is 3/4's the width of my 42" plasma. The towers are awkward, soft smooth sides everywhere make it hard to grab onto anything. Wrapping on the sides on any of the speakers gives one a dead thunk, its seems almost deader then the sub boxes. The bookshelves are bigger then my Paradigm Studio 20's and much heavier. Build quality is amazing, from the solid cabinets, to the magnetic front grills, sweet... The Rosenut is beautiful, really stands out, not glossy or distracting, but just right. I am pairing my new MTS system in my 1700^3 bedroom with a SVS PB-12 Plus. It is clear that everything on SVS's mid level speaker system is very well built. These speakers will not be leaving my house....

I am running them off of a Pioneer Elite 91, which serves as my temp Pre-Amp, and I have yet to figure out what amp I will be going with, Emotiva XPA-5 is due out soon, but obviously there are endless products out there. My Rotel 1095 is working with my Studio .v4 system. I bring this up because I believe that I am under powering them even in 2 channel mode, I measured between 105 - 110 db before they started to compress/break up a bit. That hurt my ears, very very loud, but they still delivered, for a 2 way speaker I think they really held their composure with grace. I can only imagine that the proper amp would really make them sing, loud enough to be completly unbarable, but still hold it together.

Packaging was great, double boxed wrapped in a thin silky plastic mylar, and surrounded by foam padding all around, heavy thick foam on top and bottom, obviously they will not endure a high falling drop like UPS let them have... grrr but the speakers boxed weigh 70lbs. They would have had needed 4-6" of foam to protect against that drop...

So far, I love them... I have yet to put them through the paces of movies. But with transient impactful spikes like in Constantine - 2 minute mark when Manual finds the dagger, and walks into the road and the car gets totaled by hitting Manual - 0 to 110db measured instantaniuosly -Whoa they truly deliver !!!! Not one hesitation... WOW !!

All I can say so far is WOW... SVS - I am flabbergasted, in awe...

How do you guys think these SVS-MTS speakers will compare to the latest Klipsch reference speakers?

Hmm.. I wonder how they compare with my Rockets.

(there's some chin scratching going on here)

I would so far have to state that they are more neutral then the Paradigms, in a good way... I have a bright room where the Studio's reside and I have to use the EQ in my receiver/preamp to trim the high end down on the Paradigms, the tweeters can be just piercing - the Studios also seem to have a midbass punch or coloration to them, (I am somewhat partial to it) where the MTS's don't, just neutral, true to the recording. I still have to do a side by side comparison of the two, I have a few things to take care of this week, wiring, moving equipment out of the room.... shooting for the minimalist look, equipment hidden in the basement... just the Speakers & Plasma in room.

Next week I will get more into it, but so far I find them to be excellent speakers, and with the way the MTS's are made and sound, I will very much be looking forward to see what SVS has in mind with the LTS's and could be on the fence to replace the Studio system.

replace your Studios?? wow.. they must be really good because I know how much you liked your current setup... When is the LTS suppose to be out?

I can't wait to hear your detailed thoughts of the differences between your current setup and the MTS
post #256 of 635
I believe SVS said the LTS's might possibly be out the end of this year, but said it wasn't for sure... deadlines come and go with getting everything for production lined up and glitches do happen...

I have yet to drag these back out to the Great Room to do a comparison, side by side with the Studio's... but they really sound nice... I have a lot of work to do first...
They said that the LTS speakers might come out this year if everything goes out smoothly (which they said is unlikely). I've demoed a Studio before at high SPL and the tweeter is piercing.
I hope more MTS owners will comment on their sound quality.

The Studio tweeters are extremely accurate to a fault, and if one doesn't mind using an eq to temper them, they are very detailed yes, but I still like them very much... I'd rather Eq something out, then try to add where it doesn't have the capabilities period...

Hmmm I guess thats going to be a while before we the LTS speakers.lol bummer Then again they have the LTS, the PBultra13/2 and the Adyssey eq all public or semi publicly announced so ya I'm pretty sure there balls to walls right now.

Can't wait warp thanks again for the great write up.

Much bigger than I thought, also better looking than SV Sound photos.

PB for size comparison

Look how cute that little plug is

Haven't listened to them yet, need to get some stands tomorrow

Great write-up, warp! So when do you want me to bring my Rocket 850 Sigs over? Also, I've got a friend who has the Rocket 760's and one who might pick up a pair of av123 X-series x-mtm encore's. We could finally have a Wisconsin shootout!

I'll be patiently waiting (not really though; more like impatiently waiting).

Let's get one thing clear...I'm a basshead not a audiophile!

Couldn't believe no one local had any speakers that could hold more than 10lbs. Had to order a set online. Didn't want to wait so I put speakers on a couple chairs(wife's gonna ******* when she gets home).

These are some big bookshelve speakers! I like the look of the piano shine next the flat black case, the website photos don't do them justice. The grille's match nicely with both surfaces and attach with magnets like the PB13 for a very clean look.

Changed speaker settings to large since I only got a pair and turned off the PB's. Man, the Artison's sound like ******* with no sub backing them up! Started off with the port open.

Selected a few songs;

Metaliica-One
Tool-Stinkfist
Beastie Boys-She's Crafty
Tone Loc-Funky Cold Medina
Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody
Primus-NIB
Braveheart-Revenge
We Were Soldiers-What is War
Executive Decision-The Map
Dances with Wolves-The Buffalo Hunt

As soon as "One" started I could hear a difference, James opens up the song, but when Kirk starts I could hear the reverberation from the guitar string/wire after the note had stopped. Then Lars jumps in with the kick drums, a surprising amount of bass! I could feel the thump 10ft away. The bass guitar at the beginning of NIB sounded awesome, every cord could be heard separately. When I hear this song in my truck the notes tend to run together.

They sound great up to about -10 of master volume, any higher and they get harsh. Probably has a lot to do with my room and all the reflective surfaces.

Tried them with the port blocked and prefer the sound with it open. They also blend seamlessly with the PB13's. Very nice speakers! Now I need to find a place for them, probably the extra room.

As we all know beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
And the eye of the boss (wife) is not impressed and I must admit, to a lesser degree, neither am I.
For me to keep these beautiful sounding speakers their looks will have to grow on us.... alot.
While I'm not sure that's going to happen what is happening is that these speakers, the MTS Towers, are impressing me more and more with their
neutral, open, clean, articulate, dynamic sound.
Did I leave anything out,
oh yah... their tight, deep bass response and they image like crazy!
Really an incredible sounding speaker that might get left behind as the eyes sometimes over rule the ears.

Hmm.. I kinda like their looks from afar. Perhaps I'm wearing "forum goggles"?

Got any more pics, dc?
