Should I get a DCT or a DCH? (Motorola)

I have been meaning to get a second DVR, and I was wondering if I should get the DCT-3416 or wait for the new DCH-3416, the latter being CableCard.

Besides CC, are there any other differences in the DCH, as there typically are when a new 'phase' of a box is produced?

Might the CC be problematic at first?

Do I have a better chance of getting a new box (DCT or DCH) now or 1 July?

Obviously, I would have to schedule the DVR appt very soon to get a new DCT in June, if they even have any.

After July 1 the only box you could get is the DCH. If they have it in stock the cable company would be trying to unload the DCT boxes now.

I am aware of that.
Any opinion if I should get a box now or 1 July?

If DCH has firewire, there's no reason not to get it.

I may have been incorrect in my statement. From what I have just read on another board Comcast cannot issue a new (unused) DCT box after July 1, but they can reissue a DCT box that has been used before July 1. So any new box issued has to be a DCH but the used boxes will be either a DCT or DCH. I would go with the newest technology (DCH) since in the long run it would have features that Comcast would support after the DCTs are eliminated.

PaulGo is correct, that the cable companies can continue to reissue used DCT- series boxes, as long as they wish. They simply cannot issue brand-new ones after July 1.

Personally, if it is my first DVR, I would choose a DCT-3416. The DCH's are brand-new. You'll be subject to infant mortality as well as early-adopter problems if you go with the DCH's.

I was also aware they can re-issue boxes.
This would be my second DVR, but since it will have higher capacity, it will become my primary DVR.
(I have a 6412, that I will trade in, when I can move all of my scheduled series recordings and movies to the new DVR, and watch whatever can't be re-scheduled.)

So, there is a difference in opinion.
I am leaning toward waiting, as there might be features or performance increases in the new boxes.
Of course, there could indeed be initial problems, but I can always wait to read about them here, before I decide to get a DVR, in case they issue a new phase.
If I do request a DCH-3416, you know they might show up with a DCT-3416.
I am not in a hurry to get the DVR, although it would be nice.
