Hey guys, new here so whats up first.

So heres my problem. I got my A20 going through HDMI to DVI. I have no display at all. None.

Facts:
-Component and compostite work. Display settings have been adjusted from 480i to 720p to 1080i. All work (however no high-def through composite, thats self-explanatory though). Except through HDMI-DVI.
-Latest firmware installed (v1.6 i believe?)
-Ive tried powering everything off and everything back on in the order of tv then A20 etc etc. No success.
-TV is a Hitachi 51uwx20b.

I don't believe that a DVI device can perform the necessary handshake to enable digital transfer via HDMI. Can you get 1080i via component? If so, that's probably the best you can do (which is likely fine).

yeah i can. problem is, i want to be able to upscale DVDs.

My input 1 has the DVI port (which i put in the HDMI port on the A20), and component. Would i be able to achieve upscalling on DVDs if i did it that way?

There is a fairly long thread on using HDMI --> DVI . I'd do some more checking, and also contact Tosh Customer support. They may information specific to your display.

I assume you've tried another source to rule out a problem with your DVI input? Also, if possible, you should try your A20 with another display to rule out a bad HDMI port.

As a last resort, perhaps another firmware update will help (I understand 1.7 is close to being released.).

But it seems like the last two updates were both trying to fix HDMI --> DVI conectivity issues. Apparently it's not uniform solution where one tweak fixes all output to all display models.

Again, I'd make sure Toshiba customer support was alerted to the prioblem I do know that HDMI --> DVI connections work for some folks (although with some color space problems).

Another option (although not one I'd be satisfied with) would be to connect a different good upconverting player (OPPO 971 which has DVI output) to your DVI input and just use the component output for your A20 playing HD-DVDs.

Good luck.

Rick
