Steinfire, I just purchased the 734 and the same stand pictured in your posts. Do you have your center channel behind the mesh? If so, how's it working out?
Does anyone have the 73734 yet? Or know where to find any of the 734 line in a store to look at?

I was just about to purchase the 73732, but decided to hold off until the 734's hit the store. Looks like this latest model drops some connectivity (IEEE 1394, Cablecard, etc.) but those minor losses are made up for with HDMI 1.3, Deep Color support, and the huge cut in weight and space for the 734 models.

Thanks for your input, and great pictures Steinfire!

Regards,

Smitty

Well I'm done with Mitsubishi. I had my 2nd 65734 delivered the other day and it was worse then the first one. Quality control at Mit's has to be just non exisistent. It was just as loud as the first and also has a shadow on white screens appear at the bottom of the screen.

Couple things to people looking to get this TV.

When it's delivered hook it up and listen for a noise in the back of TV by the lamp.

Also make sure you play a movie or set up the cable box before they leave to look for black specs and or shading on the screen.

Both of my sets had the whining and both of them had black specs all over the screen probably due to poor handling and dirt and dust getting in the light engine.

Other then that I wouldn't deter anyone from getting the set..it has a great picture and I'm sure some may have better luck then I have.

I was able to hear the whining sound on the store's display model, but only when I put my ear about a foot from it. I couldn't hear it standing up behind the TV, which made me question how I'd ever hear it sitting 12 feet away on the opposite side of the TV. Is the store environment really that much nosier or is it just a crap shoot whether your 734 purrs like a kitten or a lion?

Could be that the retailers you're purchasing from are "recycling" returmed sets. I have been extremely happy with my 57831 bought from a local HT installer. Or it could be true as a poster mentioned that the noise on this years sets goes away after a burn-in period of a few days.

Re: shadow on white screens - is it in Natural mode or CONTRAST CRANKED COMPETE IN THE BRIGHT STORE MODE?

I had a 57732 and it had light engine problems where the whites would bloom. It was scraped after 3 different light engines posed 3 different problems.

My first 65734 was used for 3 days and the noise didn't get any better. It was a loud humming noise that resonated through my stand and off the back wall. It had about 3 black specs on the screen that showed on bright scenes as well. I usually have my contrast around 46 on these sets and brightness set to 28-31 on natural mode with the deep field imager off.

The replacement and or 2nd set they brought me isn't quite as loud as the first one ...it has a more high pitched dog whistle sort of sound. It also has mutlitple blacks specs on the screen, which to me seems like light engine dust. To top it off there is a smudge on bright scenes at the bottom of the set almost like someone wiped off dirt from their hands on the set. Again probably either crap on the lens and or something in the light engine. Also after looking at the set the past few days it has terrible pincushion where my cable menu looks to have a bow to it on both sides.

IMO it's totally unacceptable. Like I said earlier if you get this set and it works out for you great. However all I'm saying is make sure you thoroughly inspect the set before accepting delivery.

My 65733 also had a loud high pitched whining noise coming from the back. It could be heard from 9 feet away even with my surround sound on unless it was up very loud. The picture was beautiful, though. Someone on one of the threads used a pillow. That would look goofy next to a brand new hi-tech 65" screen. I couldn't tolerate the noise. Also the bulit in stand does not look to nice to me. It puts the tv up to high. And you can see the gap between the bottom of tv on the sides and the wall behind the tv. I instead got the 65hm167 toshiba which was 500 bucks less. It is a really nice looking picture but not as nice as the mits. And it sits flush on the stand which looks more modern.

I currently have a 52525 you can hear the fan durring low sound.

Is the 734 worse than their previous models?
I just ripped mitsubishi a new hole based on the customer experience recieved at no charge when you call their customer relations department. It would be welcomed if these people had ever actually seen a Mitsubishi DLP television set, as it was like explaining it to an uneducated consumer when i used to work in the electronics retail industry.

Hopefully someone at MITS has some damn sense to contact me in regards to a very legitimate question about availability of their 2007-08 DLP lines.

Perhaps a buyer or marketing executive. After having a horrific experience with Sears and Mitsubishi product lines I still want another mits.

Hard to explain but they are good sets. 45 minutes for the second call and tier 2 support is just beyond unnacceptable for availability questions.

I would like nothing more at this point to be done with Sears and go purchase my Mits from HHGREGG or similar offerings. If they would only send me a check, I would sign something that I would never shop in their stores again...I would gladly oblige this.

Sears has over 2000 ransom credit from me and a crap selection of TVs to choose from. The toshiba is nice but very basic from what I saw. I really like the features of the 734 this year.

You could harldy hear anything on my 732.

If you decided on a 734 just hook it up and listen before the delivery team leaves. If you don't hear anything you are half way set...turn it on and look for specs on the screen and pin cushioning as well.

Tier1 is absolutely useless...with my 732 and the problems I had with it I would call them and the first words out of my mouth would be give me Tier 2.

Regardless they always took care of me though. That is one thing I must say they did a good job at.
Unless you are the type of customer that might forget to plug the set it, or put batteries in the remote, manufacturer support is totally useless.

The typical person that reads these boards knows 10 times more than the support people. Calling is just asking for frustration.
I wish the typical person that reads these boards knew a phone number for marketing at mits corp offices. Perhaps a southeast region product rep would do as well. Anyone that could tell me the rollout schedule for Sears Mits sets this year.

Thanks anyways...and I would completely agree with tier 1 in almost all companies.

yes I have the center behind the mesh and it sounds great but I still hate that I can't fit my bigger "better sounding" center in the stand. Its hard to find a good sound center channel speaker that is less than 19" wide.

Someone asked about where I got the stand earlier......I bought it at Hhgregg for 299(got a deal from the guy that sold me the tv) Its 399 there now and I saw it on sale at Circit City for 379

I'm still loving my tv and I got the HD sat hooked up and all I can say is all I'm watching is HD channels.....not even looking at the 220 other channels I have. I will take some screenshots tonight

Sounds like more of a question for Sear's.
I doubt that Mits customer support would have any idea what their sales schedule is.
not really. Someone in marketing and distribution ...even a accounts rep could answer these questions. Have you tryed calling "SearsMart" lately? I rest my case if you havent had the pleasure.

Even people that work for sears state its a crapfest over there since the Kmart aquisition and Kmart runs the show.

Do you know if the sound was caused by the color wheel spinning, or the fan to cool it? Because if its a fan, I wonder if it could be slowed down.

I have the humming sound on my new 65734 (delivered yesterday), but I only hear it when the volume is muted. My wife wasn't listening for it and I had to hone her in on it to hear it, but then she picked it out fine.

I wish the humming wasn't there, but I don't foresee it being a problem. I think at least part of it is coming from a fan, because it continues for about 30-60 seconds after the TV is turned off.

Anyone have any recommended settings for the 734 yet? Know if the service menu access is the same as 2007 models?

On both of my sets I heard the humming on scenes where there was little sound and of course muted. If I didn't have the volume up a good amount you could hear it over the sound of the TV.

Valnar my guess is the color wheel due to the sound being a higher pitch sound emulated from say a high rpm.

The service menu's are the same. 2457 service menu and 2470 bulb hours

What I think you will find odd, is all my settings for the color temp low were set at 1024 on both the sets I received. The same could be said for high color temp as well. This is odd because my 732 was spread out between the 3 primary color settings. Either Mitsubishi didnt' take the time to calibrate these sets what so ever or the scales are different from the previous model.

My colors were off on both the sets by a good margin which I can see when I go into my bedroom and watch the same program on my LCD.

The video button scrolls you through the different fields you can change and adjust. The first settings that pop up are for the vertical and horizontal positioning of the screen. You can use the arrow buttons to move the screen horizontal or vertical.

The one thing that has changed is how to access the different test patterns while you are in there. I stumbled across it a couple times but I'm not sure as to how I did it

Depending on what color temp your in it will show you your RED, GREEN and BLUE gain on the next settings.

Let me search around for the detail because I'm a little swamped this morning but a good write up on it is in the 732/831 master thread.

Visit the mitsubishi website and look at their PDF on the 734 and 733. It will outline the differences between the two.

Off the top of my head the biggest difference betweent the two is the 733 doesn't have Perfect Tint, Dark Detailer, Sharp Edge and also the Deep Field Imager.
thats not what I mean a pdf of the service menu
