42" 1080p Plasmas!?!

Hey guys, I am brand new to this forum.

I am in the market for a plasma, however I really want a 42" size.
Also, I am certainly looking for a 1080p set.

Now I heard about the 4280 series from Pioneer, do we know when that is out? or what..

Also, the Panasonic one??

Whatever details anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated..

The Pioneer 4280 started to ship several weeks ago, but is still not in most stores, AFAIK. It is not a 1080p display, but the standard 1024x768 resolution for 42" HD plasmas.

Panasonic has announced a 1920x1080p screen resolution 42" TH-42PZ700U model, but it has not shipped yet.

However, since you are new to this forum, you should spend time reading on why a 1080p (to be clear, in this context, I am referring to a screen resolution of 1920x1080) display won't add much for a 42" screen size unless you sit REAL close to the screen. 1080p is also used to refer to the signal format, so one has to be careful to specify what you mean by "1080p".

I appreciate your assistance. Wel from what I have read in other "posts" the new Pioneer 80 series, will be 1080p?
Maybe i was wrong.

Also, I am looking for a 42" plasma that will accept 1080p feeds and display 1080 lines progressively.

I will be sitting very close to the tv, and honestly... I've done a lot of research on the Sam. LCD everyone is ranting about, also the Aquos i heard is crap (banding) and the LG..people have had problems with. (But i've been impressed with)

So, do we expect other 42' plasmas. 1080p capable??

I'm not totally sure but i believe the Pioneer 4280HD scales all input signals to 768p (or maybe 720p).

AFAIK, the only 42" Plasma that will display 1080p is the new Panasonic TH-42PZ700U the just started hitting the shelves yesterday.

I am thinking about getting the 42" I was going to go with the Sammy LN-T4066F..but the rep let me know that that sports are better on a plasma. Also he stated that he had the 50" as did two other employees. I was concerned about gaming but he stated that the new plasma really don't have an issue like when they first came out.

I really am interested in the Panny, however reviews claim it has no Anti-burn in features... I really not sure I want a tv that is Burn-In Prone..

The incredible new black levels. I think that's about it - but i haven't been reading the big 8G threads that much. I think their new 1080p models are scheduled for September or sumthin . . . .

Panasonic doesn't have anti-burn-in features because they don't need it! Panasonic's plasma panels are more resistant to burn-in than any other maker so they don't need gimicks and whitewashes and so forth. And they've been getting better every year and you'd have to be a moron to get burn-in on one of these things.

Well, I'm not a moron I don't think....

I've never owned a plasma. I have Gen 3 SONY LCD Proj. and the 2nd Gen 60"XBR.

Ok, so the tv is amazing (Panny 42") However, correct me if i'm wrong but no PIP, or split screen correct?

Do we know if Samsung will make a 42" in the FP-T5084 model???

The main draw of the 80 series is the contrast and black levels, which beat anything on the market today. They are also fairly strong in terms of video processing, I/O, colors, and burn-in prevention features. 1080p has some advantages but resolution is only one of several factors in picture quality.
