Help me get a picture back please: Hitachi 53UWX10B

I am a technician for Comcast and recently a customer gave me a Hitachi 53UWX10B 53" 16:9 HDTV Rear Projection Color TV because it had a reen line bowing at the top sagging down. I took the TV and tried to fix the green geometry in the service menu but i obviously did something wrong because now when i press the power button the red light on the front just flashes and i dont get any picture what so ever. I am thinking i overdrove something some how and this is its way of letting me know. I was wondering if there is any way I can restore the tv to factory defaults from the circuit board. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am pretty much willing to try anything no matter how complex.

I doubt that your e-mail will accept a 12mb file but I'll try

if there is a lamp in the unit (eg lcd rear projector etc), a flashing red led indicates the lamp is burnt out.

the e-mail I sent with service manual attached didn't bounce back, so I guess gmail allows LARGE attachments...

You can use http://www.yousendit.com/

The set needed repair to wtart with and by continuing to use it you likely made the problem worse. Probably blew a fuse due to a shorted convergence output IC.

Pull the convergence ICs out and see if the pico fuse in one of the supplies to them is open. If so replace the pico fuse, replace the ICs witht he updated chips from Hitachi, and replace any open or thermally damaged resistors in theoutput stage of the convercence section. Then you should be able to adjust it.

Jim White thank you very much for the pdf it has been very helpful though i dont understand a lot of it cause i am new to this but I have been able to get a picture back on the screen, now its a matter of trying to correct the geometry, it seems that it lets me go left and right with the colors on the grid but it wont let me go up and down with some of them. There is definitely a lot to this and I appreciate all your help.

P.S. Gmail allows u to hold up to 2 gb.

lcaillo thank you for the input now alls I have to do is figure out what u said to me .

what he is saying is that the Hitachi sets in this series are notorious for blowing Convergence IC's.... they are large power amplifier modules similar to those used in many audio poweramps... there is a bunch of info and I believe som pix of this ailment over at the ***************.com.... I had some pix of what the problem looked like but I think I erased them when I sold the set... the effect is a VERY radical displacement of one color... not your typical misconvergence.

There is a great deal of info on the matter at HDTVoice.com as well.

Now the problem on the set seems to be that I cant move any part of the red grid up or down for some reason? any ideas on that one? I am doing it the same as the green and blue. All three colors seem to be bowing in at the top and bottom after I set everything back to factory defaults. (just thought I would add that just in case it is a symptom of something Dr.) If it isnt a sign of a bigger problem i'm not to concerned with it cause I can fix it with the convergence. One last thing it almost looks like the whole picture is slight shaking or as if it has a slow refresh rate. All the help I have received so far has been great and I appreciate evrything.

If you can't adjust it you need to repair the output stage. Read the multitudes of info on the site suggested. This is the most common failure mode in ANY RP CRT based TV. All of the manufacturers use the same vendor for the chips and similar circuit designs with slight differences in loading and range of operation. Hitachi makes a kit to upgrade the chips and provide the resistors for many of their sets. Read the sites suggested for the details.

I would suggest talking to the guy who runs www.homecentric.com..he is a Hitachi calibrator..

Talk to Mr. Bob. I'm sure he can answer some questions.
