What HD tuner should I buy?

I'm about to buy a Kenwood MP-635 radio for its HD and ipod video (I think it's compatible with the radio) compatibility and I want to get the HD tuner. I saw Kenwood's model, the KTC-HR100TR for $142.

Combined with the radio itself, which is about $169 and the hd tuner $142, that's going to be over $311. I kind of want to keep it a tad cheaper than that while not sacrificing sound quality. Since I'm not upgrading my four speakers in my car or installing an amplifier, I think I should be able to find something a little better.

One idea is to get the Kenwood KDC-MP535U. It doesn't have the fancy graphical effects like the MP-635, but it still has the features that matter like HD-radio and ipod video connectibility. Buy the
Kenwood KCA-iP500 http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...CA-iP500.html# and whatever is recommended in the HD tuner department.

I've not found any replacement head units I particularly like. Of course, I'm not one for the colors and blinky things. I just want something aesthetically pleasing, and none of the replacement head units seem to fit.

I've got a Visteon HD Jump in my car, and I'm pretty happy with it:

I have my iPod hooked into it. If my car's stock stereo had a line in, I would have hooked that to the Jump's Line Out. Lacking that, I'm using the Jump's FM Modulator. It sounds decent, but would be better with a Line In.

Visteon also makes a "HD Zoom" which wires in behind the stereo with the FM Modulator. I probably would have bought this one had it been out when I "jumped":

Just some more options to consider.

Consider the JVC KD-HDR1. Pretty spiffy. Sounds nice. Lists for $200. Has an iPod adapter (sold separately).

Interesting it already has an HD tuner installed. My only complaints about that model is that I can't find an adapter for the ipod. The Kenwood model I was interested in comes with a $20 dollar adapter for usb, audio jack, and ipod connection capabilities.

Part of me wonders if the HD functions would even be worth it because I am primarily doing this for my ipod. I guess I could always buy the hd portion later.

i just got the jvc at best buy and they had the ipod adaptors there as did circuit city. i personally don't think the ipod adaptor is worth it at all its alot easier just to plug in via an aux adaptor.

The adapter that comes with the Kenwood KDC-MP635 has a $20 aux, ipod, and usb adapter combo. The benefit of using the ipod adapter is that you can see what song is playing right on the radio instead of having to mess with the ipod itself. You can even control the ipod through the radios remote.
