Sirius Echo Home Repeater System now available

The much anticipated Sirius Echo Home Repeater System (SIRWRS1) is now available for consumer consumption for around $100. The Sirius Echo lets you distribute the Sirius signal throughout your house, so you only need one exterior antenna.

Just install your Sirius antenna where you can get the best signal, and then connect it to the Echo transmitter. The Echo transmitter then beams the signal to the Echo receiver module (one of each are included in the kit), which you then connect to any Sirius radio. No more extension wires!

Is the "Echo receiver module" needed? Can any Sirius "antenna" pick up the signal?

Has anyone used this and does it work well?

It works for me. I had an antenna on a north window sill. Reception got spotty when the new satellite fired up. Later I found out I had a good signal on a south window sill so I put an Echo transmitter in the south window and it feeds the radio at the north window.

John,

So there are no interruptions or interference when using it?

How far a distance are from North to South window?

I no longer have interruptions in service, knock wood. When I had the antenna in the north window there were times I had no signal. When I was outside once with a loose antenna hooked to the receiver in the car I experimented with reception. It varied from one bar at the window to two bars a foot or two out to all three bars when the antenna got out from under the eaves. I could have solved all my problems by putting the antenna on the roof but this house is 90 years old and opening some windows is out of the question.

The Echo is transmitting about 50 feet from south side to north side. When the trees leaf out in the spring I might have to move the south window antenna (for Echo) to the roof to join the antenna that feeds a receiver in the bedroom. If I had a second Echo receiver I could feed two receivers with the one rooftop antenna, but those receivers are $60.
