I was able to snag another LC2, and moving a third LC2 from the office i could have a pair of LC2s replace the L830 for the side. But I have seen at least one recomendation in this forum to have LC2s across the front. In that scenario, would I replace the L830s with the 890s? I would keep the center LC2 either way.

BTW, I'm also running a stereo setup with 820s and 830s in the same room. This is all wired so that I can either use the Stero mode, 7.2 mode, or both.

Yes, I realize the best answer will come from my own ears, but pinging the collective wisdom of this group while I await shipping.

Thanks in advance.

LC2's on the sides. L890s in front for stereo.

I completely agree. You want the dual 8" speakers for L / R front channels, not your dual 6" LC2s...

thank you your time, rdgrimes and pilotace. LC2s replaceing the side L830s it is.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if the stereo amp is enough for the L890s. That is indeed an interesting option though. Thank you.

I think the people that talked about using 3 LC2's across the front were doing so in place of L820's when 880's or 90's were not an option. If it were me I'd leave the front as is with the LC2/L890's and move the 2 new LC2's to the sides and L820's to the back. This makes your 7 all 3.5 ways. I would also use the L890's for 2 channels as well. With no sub needed they are by far the best 2 channel speakers you have listed.

If I could only use the L890's for one thing it would be 2 channel and then I would use 3 LC2's across the front for your 7 channel. But like I said, in my room the L890's would be used for both as I never listen to 2 channel while watching a movie.

Sorry if that's confusing.

Where?

I just finished setting up my Studio 180 HT and am in love . I just got off the phone with IRA at wwstereo.com and ordered another set of 130's for front height speakers for $110. My wife would be thrilled if they were $99!

WW Stereo is the one who has it for $99. Call Ira back and have them credit you.

Done

It sure has been nice to have a place to go where I can read up on the JBL 190's. Thanks all for your input! I couldn't be much happier with my choice.

Heh, actually I followed it all quite well. I took rd's suggestion and plugged the L890s into the Stereo Amp, L820s into the 7.2 config. Surprisingly the amp is able to handle the 890, at least at the levels I listened to today. I guess all 4 L830s will be moved into the office or bedroom.

The L890s sound so smooth in the Stereo configuration. Spent a few hours kicking back and just listening to some Allman Brothers, Janice Joplin and Santana with a big smile on my face. Wife gets bad migraines on windy days like today so the levels were subdued and mellow.

The L890 has an impedance dip from about 80~250 htz, that drops to 3u. So if playing mid-bass heavy music, then there could be a problem at high volume. That said, my daughter drives a pair of L890s with a HK AVR635 rated @ 90w in stereo, as I recall.

Are these worth getting if you have the JBL E20? It will be used for music and HT or should I go for Klipsch RB-25 Bookshelf Speakers. Please someone answer.

Build your entire system around the same speaker line. I don't like to mix and match speaker lines and brands, although you can. I wouldn't mix with it personally.

It is a steal for a pair of bookshelves for $99 though.

Thanks BH I'll keep them in mind. Those 190's look nice too what is the lowest they've gone down on price?

I'm just using a 100W total rack mount Stereo Amp with A + B speaker sets. With the L820/830s, kept at about 1/4 way up, which with the built in speakers of the TV still allowed a conversation. That's about where I was running the L890s today.

Who knows. If it becomes an issue there are plenty of 1 or 2U stereo Amps that can replace this one. I'll be playing with this some more but doubt I would push them with this amp much over ~25 watts/ea. IIRC the Stereo could handle 4 Ohm.

$589 for a 5.0 set with 190s, 130s, and the 120... but that deal is long gone. They won't be getting any more in. That was almost a third of the retail price.

I meant the 190 pair by itself?

I need to give cheap bookshelves to a friend, would the 130s be a good choice for a stereo listening system in the price range? Where do they roll off on the low end?
Just bought the Pio 1121 for 380, a great deal at that price! Can't wait to hear them drive my 190s

Appreciate some assistance from fellow JBL-owners...

I have some JBL SP6ii in-wall speakers for the fronts and rears, which were installed by the previous owner of my house. I would like to do a quick and inexpensive upgrade to complete the system.

The JBL LC1 center speaker gets good reviews and would be an appropriate size to fit in my shelf system. Would this center channel match up well with my existing SP6ii's?

Or is there another center channel that would match up better? I'd prefer to avoid replacing the in-wall speakers and starting over.

Thanks in advance!

As the SP6ii has Ti laminate tweeter it should work well with the LC1, which is pure Ti. Older E, N series centers would also work as they have Ti laminate tweeters.
Many who have the Studio L series prefer the LC2 over the LC1, as the LC2 has a true mid-range driver. Its also wall mountable.

Appreciate the quick feedback.

So, within the same manufacturer, staying with the same or similar tweeter material should make sure the speaker sounds are working together rather than "conflicting" with each other?

Regarding the LC2, it's unfortunately too large for my space.

The material of the tweeter, and the speakers being close to the same type.
14 years ago I used what I had, after I built a much larger LR. A pair of L55 and a pair of L212. Those speakers are not even close to being same type of speaker. Soft dome~aluminum dome; 14" two-way~8" three-way. BAD mis-match in sonic timbre.

got tempted, but my Jamo towers are behaving pretty decent as my side speakers.

I pondered getting 130's for my rears but it seems like overkill. I don't even have very much 7.1 material.

Just a quick note that the Audiosource Stereo is handling the low end quite well. Surprised the heck out of me. "Spark of High Heel Boys" as an example is sweet.

You can get the 130's for $90 if you simply create a new account on Buy.com and use this coupon. I don't even need speakers but for $90 shipped these were just too hard to pass up. They will be here on Friday.

Edit: Coupon expires at 11:59 PM PT, 2/29...so you better hurry!

I currently have JBL N38II and JBL N-Center. I was able to get JBL ND310II for a great price to upgrade my front speakers. Do you think that the JBL N-Center is good enough for my new fronts or should I look for something better to match them (JBL S-CenterII)?

Senstivity/Max Amp Power:
-JBL N38II - 90db/175W
-JBL N-Center - 90db/150W
-JBL ND310II - 91db/250W
-JBL S-CenterII - 91db/150W

The S-Center is a much better speaker. Alternatives might also include the EC35.

Thanks,
The reason I am asking is that I heard front and center channel speakers should match. Fronts are N-series and the center is S-series, but they have same sensitivity and I think that is what matters most.

More importantly, the S-Center or EC35 are 3-way speakers, as are your mains.
