Actually, it was a guy who was with JBL Synthesis through the 90s and 2000s, so he had an inside view at JBL...and still does. He also still reps Syn and others. Beyond JBL, this info is rather routine and is easy to confirm regarding THX Ultra and Ultra 2 sub specs and design theory as it applies to small room LF acoustics. For instance, you could ask Tony Grimani (formally of Pro THX and Dolby) or John Dahl of THX, etc..and they would pretty much tell you the same. They would also be the first to confirm some of what RD comments on in his response. The lack of any possible room standards in homes make absolutes impossible, hence the necessity to design as well as possible, then verify and modify as required.

These may a bit dated but couldn't pass on the deal....

Just got a set of l820's for $285 BNIB off ebay.
I also got a refurbished pioneer elite 52 for $430.

My next purchase will be a sub. I think ive come to accept an l8400p will not be enough for me.

What is everyone's onion in the outlaw LFM-1 EX?
Or does anyone have a better suggestion for a sub?
I have 2 of the LFM-1 EX in my theater -- very happy with them. They replaced the JBL Synthesis 3 subwoofers.

One of my HTPS400's quit working. I took it in and found out that the driver voice coil has seized up. A new driver goes for $700.00. Let me know if anyone knows a source of a used one. I'll watch on ebay but they are few and far between.

Was that driver used in any other sub? I was thinking no. Odds are that driver won't be available at all pretty soon.

The part # is 336063-001 and as far as I could find, it was not used in any other speaker.

I was wondering if it was adapted by JBL from some other application or brand.

Any chance of a re-cone for it? Even if it's not aluminum it would be better than $700.

I had one of those drivers on display at my house this past Friday at an event I hosted to honor Greg Timbers of JBL. He was surprised to see me using four of the HTPS400s in the Performance Series system, but he liked it.

You can view some pictures here, though many don't mean much out of context. You can spot the driver in a couple of the exhibition photos. It's not for sale (yet), as it's one of my spares.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Very impressive array of speakers, the food looks delicious too. If you ever decide to sell the driver I'm definitely interested.

I have an Onkyo TX NR 818 - receiver, JBL LC2 - center, JBL L890 - FL, FR.
And looking to add a sub and surrounds.

Your recommendations please.smile.gif

Would you guys buy some more L890s for surrounds?
Which sub will better supplement the JBL L series Home Theater set up?

Thank you in advance.smile.gif

If you have the space for two more L890s then do it. Or you can use L880s or two more LC2, L820. They are all a perfect match.
But you will have to do something about the Onkyo. Not enough juice to drive 4 L890s. If its got pre-outs then buy a power amp. As for subs, whatever you like.

If in the US, then for the price J&R has the L820s for and free shipping....I can't see a much better deal for surrounds.

Nice!! I'm looking for a set of these Studio Series speakers but hard to find. Sellers on Ebay want ridiculous amounts for shipping.

To put that in perspective: A pair of boxes like the S312 can easily need $100 in packing materials alone. You should fear any seller not charging adequately for packing and shipping. Wouldn't surprise me to see shipping charges of $200 or more for a pair going across 2-3 states. It may be arguable that the S-series are not worth shipping. YMMV.

Best to just call JBL on something like that, odds are lower than slim they will have anything. They are plastic and not very sturdy.

The "Availability" field for the HTPS400 12" driver is empty. What does that mean?
