Ya that's the "review" I saw haha. Guy must have been drunk or something opening the FRONT of a speaker box (or ANY box) with a pocket knife!

Some other reviews in French also.

That’s hilarious. My favorite part is when he’s talking about the specifications and says “8-Ohm Impotence”. He mentions that they were designed by “Jeff Timbers”. Is that a mistake, relative or none of the above?

I've searched through the thread some about comparing the studio 1 series to the polk monitor series but no real luck and it's a huge search! The jbl's are on a better sale on newegg right now and 120c $84.99 compared to $150 for monitor 25c. The rest of the jbls are cheaper right now too.

anyone have any opinions on the studio 1 series vs. monitor?

I was looking at the jbl 120c, 190, and 130

for polk monitors I was looking at 25c, 45b, 65t

Thanks.

What are the specs on a Jbl L880 Studio L Series 4-Way Dual 6" 200-Watts Floorstanding Speaker?

I've seen 200w, 800w, I've seen studio, non-studio. I can't find them anywhere with consistency. Nothing on Amazon, ebay, etc.

Most certainly NOT 800w. Its 200 or 250w. But in either case, they can take a lot more.

Why not look at JBL's product page and take their word for it? After all, they're the ones who will honor the warranty--or deny it if you were pushing 800W at full volume and "they just stopped working."

Don't know. You know this is the JBL forum? I'm sure somebody will point you in the right direction.

I did see it. But I've seen so much conflicting information. Do you like those speakers?

see: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000G1NWYO

800w. It made me think there is more than one version of this speaker. Plus I've seen -H (maybe for color?).

100/400w. No mention of 200w.

The manufacturers tend to screw their specs up less than resellers. I'm the first review listed on Amazon, so you already know I love my L880s. I also love my LC2, 2 L8400Ps, and pair of L830s. The sound is phenomenal, the accuracy and lack of coloration is great. The price is outstanding for the product you get. Do I lust after a pair of L890s up front and moving the L880s to the surrounds? Yes. Do I lust after Revel Ultima Salon2s? Yes. Do I lust after a Performance Series system? Yes. Do I lust after anything else near the price range of the JBL Studio L series? Not a whit.

Give them ample juice, good interconnects, and a quality environment to work with and you'll be hard pressed to find anything comparable in the price range. Check out the Stereophile review if you have lingering doubts.

L880s are amazing speakers! I only stopped buying them because I ran out of room. Ran them with the LC2 as center untill I found a 3rd L880 at an irresistable price and now it is my center speaker with a pair of L8400P in between them for subs and 4 L820s for sides and rears. They all blend very well together. The rig sounds beautiful for music or movies and has been a source of joy since unboxing them.

I realize this is a JBL thread, but do you think they would be better than a Klipsch KG 5.5?

Strange comparison as the Klipsch is a 20 yr old speaker with a horn tweeter and 2 10" woofers compared to the L880's titainium dome tweeter and 2 6 inch woofers... The Klipsch is probably in need of new cone surrounds if they have not been replaced in the last decade. I'd love to hear them!

QQ JBL gurus. I'm looking at an excellent condition 2nd hand set of JBL LX60s. I think they're about 15 years old but know (nor can find) nothing more about them other than they're 6 ohm. I hope they'll be a bargain but my main concern is whether my amp (Marantz PM66SE) has the guts to run these ok. Any opinions on this cheapo 2nd hand set up, other than I'm a skinflint?!biggrin.gif

tried to PM you on Lansing, can you shoot me a note on this?
I know the synthesis speakers are good, but are they as amazing as I've read without the electronics package? I'd rather get an Integra pre-pro over the SDEC-3000 and SDP-40HD to save some (serious) cash. I'll have the system professionally calibrated either way.

that might literally be the coolest speaker to own on the planet. Is there a single speaker designer in history who has more revenue attributed to his designs? and to have his one of a kind hand built design for his own home......OMG eek.gif

That is so cool. Now, if you could only keep one pair of the two based on sound only which would it be?
