I am thinking about adding a power amp for the L890’s.
I was looking at the Emotiva XPA-2 but am concerned it might be too bright with the JBL’s.
Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with the various amps on the studio l series?
For what its worth , I have the exact same JBL Studio L setup you are running , except I only have 2 L820s not 4.
I was originally driving them with an Onkyo 608 AVR. They sounded really good.
Back this past May , I upgraded to an Onkyo 818 and also added a Sherbourne PA 5-200 amp.
The PA 5-200 is almost identical to the Emotiva XPA - 5.
The Onkyo 818 are driving the 2 820s and the Sherbourne is Bi-Amping the L890s and driving the LC-2 Center.
There is no "brightness" associated with the Sherbourne at all.
Coming from the low powered Onkyo 608 to my current 818 / PA 5-200 setup , was a Huge improvement.
The extra power of both the 818 and the PA 5-200 really make the L series JBLs Sing!!
Feed them Power , they Love It!
You will Love the results.
