There are several E10/20/30's on ebay now. For placement and space, the E10's would work the best, but I know I would like the 20's or 30's better. My E100's are enroute. Can't wait to get those beast hooked up.

I was looking at the E20's and ran across the Balboa series 10's. Looks like basicly the same speaker. Can anyone comment?

Hey everyone. I havent bought them yet, but they will be in my home before year end Im looking to go with a Studio L setup for I'd say 75% HT and 25% music.

Im going to go with
L890 mains
LC2 center
L830's on stands for the surrounds.
SVS 20-39 PCPlus for the subwoofer

Eventually when I move to a bigger place with a bigger room for my HT, I would probably get a pair of L810's or L820's for the rear speakers to do a 7.1 setup.

What do ya guys think?

Also for the persont hat posted on this thread looking for a cheap place to get the LC1 or LC2, send me a PM I found a very affordable place....

BTW, you could even consider two 830's more for the 7.1 setup in future...

I had seriously been considering the Studio L Series before I found a great buy on my EC35 center on ebay, which made me stay with the E Series for the rest of the system. I have not hear them, but what research I did and the comments here, lead me to believe you can't go wrong with what you have planned.

I upgraded to Cinema Sound Series 2

CSC 55 ---- Center channel 150W


CST 55 Floorstanding Tower Speakers
2 Floorstanding CST55 Tower Speakers 150W

I will get 2 more for the rear. I really like them they sound nice and crisp.

I have a Pioneer VSX-D411 and the subwoffer that came with it sounds good do I need a new sub( it does not have a LFE input )because i'm looking at the Onkyo 605/805?

P.S. I paid 137.50 each and 99.00 for the center. Some of the prices were out of buget. Is the L890 that much of a difference than what I have?

Ok, I've been searching for the last two months for a cherry EC35 and only found one on ebay (set the sniper a few $ too low), and one in NYC on Craigslist that I didnt get a reply on. Seeing as a refurbed Infinity Beta C360 is avalible for about ~$230 shipped ($100 cheaper then the avalible EC35's), what is your all's opinion on using one of those as a substitute? Running E60's as mains (looking at a POSSIBLE upgrade to Beta 40's next summer).

It is going to be difficult to find an EC35 in cherry....but I'm stunned at the ripoff price you saw. These discontinued speakers should be less than $200. Can you do with black ash? Will the cc go in a cabinet? The black are much more common, and thus more available.

I doubt you'll get a good timbre match with the JBL's using the Beta center channel. The drivers are much different. I use an old set of Infinity Reference Ones as a rear surround pair. They will be replaced if I ever find a good, used pair of S36's or S26's. I've had a few Infinity speakers here, and they just have a different sound from my JBL's. I'd suggest all Infinity or all JBL...no mixing. BUT (!!), you need to audition them, if you can, to see which you prefer.

They SHOULD be less then $200, but every one is out of stock except for a few home automation retellers that just happened to pick up that line a few years back and never realized that it was discontinued and the prices should be droped. I could have had one for $150 if I had gotten one when i picked up the EC25, but I started trying to build my system on a extreamly small budget. I wanted $300 for the whole thing and that center speaker was the first thing I bought ($50 shipped), then the E60's for $110 each (shipped), then the E20's for around $60. Now though I regret not going with E30's and an EC35. I suppose I could call some of those places that still have them and try to haggle with them, but finding the time is a pain and getting it for half price will probably not work.

Auditioning is out, the only HiFi shop in town doesn't really carry the type of stuff I'd want to addition ($2000 a speaker doesn't fly with me, I dont have that kind of cash!). In the around (150 miles) I haven't been able too many places that carry the things I want to try out. I was able to pick out the current JBL system based on the ones I head at Best Buy, but my options past that are a little limited.

I've at times considered going with Black Ash, but I have a stile concius roommate, and even I think it would be HORIBABLLY out of place. Your welcome filecat! Gotta have a place for the JBL's! my vintage L80t3's made awesome front speakers, and that was even before home theater was out!

I am glad to see that there are JBL fans out there, I didnt know if there were or not, most of what I saw was a few post here or there, this thread has brought us all together!

I have big black speakers and tons of oak in the great room. They look terrific together IMHO. But regardless of my tastes....I found this for you. Looks like it's in today's Craigslist...but I have no idea what city. Perhaps if you email the person, he'll ship! The price is right and it looks in good shape.

Black woudn't be that bad, it's just that all the other speakers are cherry. I could have gone all black and it would have looked even better in the last location, but the mismatch is the issue. Thanks for finding that one on Craigslist for me, e-mail sent so we'll see if he is up for shipping it.

Mudslide, I had that same Panny 50" for two years until I recently upgraded to my Sammy 61". That was a great TV. My son is now the proud owner of my old one.
I received the E100's yesterday, got em hooked up and WOW!!! I'm in heaven. I have to go get some more speaker wire today so I can bi-wire them like my EC35. What a beautiful sound the 3 of them make together. I will try and get a pic tonight to show off. Thanks for talking me into the E100's, best $500 I've spent in a long time.

Ahhh, another satisfied customer! I'm glad you're enjoying the setup.

Yeah, I really like the Panny, except it goes through bulbs like gramma goes through Depends. Fortunately they extended the warranty until this fall (for ALL units...no matter when you bought it...lawsuit settlement).

By the way, I agree with Eugovector....bi-wiring undoubtedly doesn't do much...if anything. Bi-amping...that's a different story.

I hope you get it. It looks in pretty good shape! I don't know where that town is, but it can't be much to ship an EC35 across country.

Yeah, it looks like it's in great shape. No picture of the drivers unfortunately, but the seller said they arnt dented or damaged in any way. The town is on the SF Bay, so it's literally on the other side of the county. UPS wanted $35, but DHL was reasonable at $22. The seller agreed to ship it, so I should be in business! Let's just hope that this fixes the lacking/funny sounding midrange of my center channel. All the components but the actual speaker have been swapped (from x-box to receiver and associated cables), so I'm thinking this should fix it. Now time to pick up a new sub (current thing only goes to 30hz, so I'll be using it as a mid-bass driver). Any way, thanks for the help again.

Congrats! I hope it works out for you. You should get a much fuller sound from the EC35. How do you have the current cc set up? Is it in a cabinet?

Sub? Best bang for buck is Hsu or SVS. Don't bother with any JBL ( )

CC is just on a wooden stand that wraps around my TV so the speaker is fairly open and the back wall is about 2ft away. Plenty of room for that back port to breath. I'll eventually be sticking some sound absorbing panels on the back wall behind each speaker though.

Yeah, I've demoed a few JBL subs at BB and wasn't really happy with them. Heck, just about every HT sub I've ever been able to demo in person has be disappointing. All extreamly boomy and have a distorted upper/mid bass "sound" to them that I despise. The thing I have now is good in the mid bass and is really tight, but it just doesn't have the SPL to keep up with the mains and my E60's probably go down lower.

I was actually thinking about an Elemental Design A2-300. It's a good deal for what you get. I wish I got in on the original price, but the current one isn't bad!

But... after coming here I might get the L880's and put them in the front and the CST55's in the rear. Does this seem right?
Would I have to get the L series center as well to go with the L880's?

Is the L880 that much of a sound difference than what I have?
I don't want to over play the sub if I am making my self clear.

utcpyro...have you gotten your new toy yet? How does it look and play? Better than your old one, hopefully.

I just set up my new S38's in place of my really really old J350A's as surrounds. There is not much change....perhaps a little cleaner high end, now...but basically the same, dynamic and clean JBL sound. And it looks much nicer!

Oh, I also put up a couple of bass traps from GIK. They make a demonstrable and pleasant difference. But I need about 8 more.

No, but it's shipped and on it's way. Again, literally other side of the country, ground shipping, yeah.... Tuesday-ish it should get here. I also just ordered a eD A2-300 (probably will be another month before that gets here), so it should get really fun in the living room. I think I'm about to be able to pull off my shipment of bass trap material soon as well.

i'm grabbing a pair of JBL Northrige E90's, LC1 center cannel, and L820's as my rears
there any special way to set these up to make them sound better?
btw going in to a Yamaha RX-V661 receiver
