Stupid Q? Will it make a big diff if i use a HD-DVD player with my Panny 50PX600U?

I got a Toshiba HD-A2 dvd player as a gift. I am debating if i should use that with my Panasonic 50PX600U. I am currently using a Sony GX355 dvd player right now, with upconverting and HDMI and all that. I only have regular dvd movies (not HD dvd). Will i see a diff watching regular dvd movies using the Toshiba HD dvd player?

I think if you want a definite step up in PQ you will need to get a player with a ReonVX chip, like the XA2 or Sammy BD1200. The ReonVX processing can really improve PQ for SD disks.

yeah but this is a gift, i cant ask my friends to 'get me specificly this dvd player' as a gift...

The Toshiba HD DVD players are excellent at upconverting SD DVD's, but it all depends on how good your existing DVD player is, how close you sit to your plasma, how good is your vision, etc..

However, if you rent or buy HD DVD releases, it is a major step up from upconverted SD DVD.

The benefit of an HD player is that they play HD DVDs. Get some of those and enjoy the better PQ. How much better PQ will there be from a standard DVD? Can't be too much, if any.
