Hello all; Please note I fully support both HiDef formats and am listing this thread in each high definition format software section....
Looking at the release day schedule, with so many announced titles to be released on Sept. 18th, on both formats, including some official and perhaps more to come, why not have a buy HiDef Day Sept. 18th. And, im NOT saying just buy HD DVD or Blu Ray, but how about either format? I know this is a wacky idea, but compared to SD DVD, sales of both formats are way, way behind, which isn't a suprise considering it is a new format. But, my idea is, by making an official day where supporters of their format buy HiDef movies, or supporters of both formats buy some movies of each format, on that day, we can spike sales of high definition in general, to show studios just how strong the base is for the high definition format. This would be beneficial to us all, because it would signal to studios waiting on the fence to release HUGE titles for stronger customer base that it is time to do so, and it will give them enough time to push out these titles before the end of the Holiday season. And for Blu ray fans, maybe it'll light a fire under studios like Fox and Disney that standing on the sidelines maybe isn't a great idea financially.
Moreso, I think this "format war" is only good in that the competition forces studios to have special sales on software and hardware to compete with eachother, can you imagine if only one format exsisted how much each disk or player might be? With a buy HiDef Day, surging sales of both formats will alert studios that BOTH formats are here to stay, so you better have some good sales coming up!
And, for those who just can't STAND brotherly love and the greater good, this big sale day can allow us to all see, ultimately, which format has the single best selling DVD of the day and which thread gets more supporting posts. If you are with me, please add your comments and which highdef titles you will be ordering (HD DVD in this thread, Blu Ray in that section's thread)...
