HDNET Titles authored on BD-R on amazon?

Anyone bought a few new HD NET titles that popped up on June 6th? They're on amazon. They all have a warning that they won't play on Panasonic and sony's BDP-S1. What's intriguing is that these disks appear to be made on BD-R.

(Can't include the link, just go to amazon.com and search for "HDNET blu-ray".

I wonder if this mean HDNET is paying $5 for BD-R blanks in bulk? This would solve the authoring costs for low volume runs.

Some of those titles are suggestive, I picked an exotic travel one to see how it will turn out.

I wouldn't be too surprised if they were. They might even be DVD-9s authored as a BD.

Between HDDVD and Blu Ray, I've purchased about 10 HDNet discs through their store. All the movies and shows they offered were on pressed discs except for one of the Bikini Destinations discs which was a burnt disc (I'm guessing a DVD). With them not mentioning any of these titles on their site, I'm thinking these may be the same.

I'm assuming the pressed discs are 'real' discs, but with the low interactivity (they had menus very similar to those found on DVDs, with static menus) and the low runtimes (about 60 minutes total) they could also have been just DVD's burnt with HD content.

Let me know how they are though. It seems the ones on amazon may just be 20-25 minute episodes from the TV show and that makes me a bit hesitant to 'try them out' at the prices theyre asking.

The warning in the amazon page for these disks state that BDP-S1 requires firmware upgrade for better BD-R/BD-RE support. The mention of BD-R piqued my interest as I have been making a large number of my own HDV (and other) footage on BD-RE/BD-R. I am however still paying about $10 / BD-R and $13/BD-RE at a minimum. That's why I'm assuming these are BD-R disks. Note the runs are very small at this point, and the mastering costs would be prohibitive for runs of < 5000.

You can create BDMV and BDAV format movies on the BD-R and they play on various players. The samsung BDP-1000 plays only BDAV on DVD-R and BD-R/BD-RE, Panasonic plays only BDMV on DVD-R/BD-R/BD-RE. PS3 plays everything I throw at it, even mpg files with the correct headers (eg : from HDV).

I'll find out next week what they are. Some of the titles are pretty suggestive, and as much as I love miami and cancun, I'll have to pass until official reviews pops up somewhere.

It is weird that they 'won't play on the Panasonic' - that kinda implies that they are BDAV discs since BDMV discs work no problem on the Panasonic.

they will work fine on the S1 after the recent firmware updates

I noticed a few were out, but if HDNet would release the entire Bikini Destinations series I would buy it in a heartbeat
