Yamaha 661 is HDMI 1.2a. Onkyo was pretty much first out with the 1.3 -- others are coming if you can wait and it's a must-have feature for you.

I still don't know what all this hype about HDMI 1.3 is about. Don't you guys read the "Why we don't need the HDMI 1.3" thread? Paying all the attention to specs (like HDMI 1.3) and not enough attention to sound quality is not the prudent approach. I have a Harman Kardon AVR 745 (had the 247 before) and love it. I have no problems recommending the 247 to someone for sound quality and HDMI 1.1 features. However, it does have the issue of not able to turn of video scaling.

I don't have a problem with HDMI 1.1, except I don't believe you can pass SACD over HDMI 1.1? Well the issue to me is that in the next year probably most if not everything will go 1.3. And after that 1.4 and so on. It is just the AV migration path. People should not fear it...it is part of the process. I may purchase a AVR745 if it comes down to the price point my AVR-7300 came down to two years ago ($799.00).

By the way....what is the Video Scaling problem of the 745?

There are no SACD players that pass DSD through HDMI right now. The PS3 converts DSD to PCM and that is playable on HDMI 1.1 (including the H/Ks). The scaling problem was on the 247, that is why I returned it. It is limited to 720p scaling and cannot be turned off. I don't have any problems with the 745's scaler. Also, they released a firmware upgrade a couple of days ago that could be applied using a PC and the USB port - pretty easy to do. Another person said that now the 745 works with 5.1 PCM from HD-DVD players also (in addition to the already supported bluray players).

I bought my 745 for $775 + $35 shipping refurb. Looks and behaves like new. It comes with the TC30 remote that is a clone of Harmony 720. Pretty cool.

As I understand in the standard of HDMI 1.2, you can pass SACD over HDMI1.2 if the play and preamp meet HDMI 1.2 (now I use the term standard because the manufacture can do what ever they want) and (I have no application experience tring this so I could be Talking out of my A$s)

On Referbs.... I may by a referb locally (probably not), but, will never buy one over the internet/mail order. a) Don't want to buy someones elses problem, and b) Don't want a unit 45 to 60 pound piece of equipment being shipped across the country, again and again and..... If I Don't buy a Onkyo or some other unit, then I may buy a new 745 at Fry's for the price you paid for your Referb. Then I can keep the 745 for 2 years and then buy something that will be much more feature reach then the product out now and a possibly have a decent track record.

Do you disagree that the next step of HDMI is 1.3 or do you think the future product is 1.1 like your 745 or 1.2 like the last generation receivers?

You use Hype...... seems like progress. Like I posted on the "Official" "Why you don't need HDMI 1.3" thread. Answer.......Because HDMI 1.4 was released. It will all be backwards compatable

On Sound Quality..... My H/K 7300 does not do a great job of 2 channel like my Denon receiver did, but the 745 is a different platform then the 7300. So I cant say, nor can you say that the 745 sound better then the new Onyo Receivers in the same class till they come out.
