My current HTPC is a Pentium 4 Northwood at 2.8Ghz. I've been running everything in overlay with an old ATI 9600 Pro because it can't handle HD and VMR9. I was about to retire it in favor of a Core2Duo until I started hearing about the GeForce 8500/8600 series cards. Alas, no AGP versions were announced.
Now with the ATI 2x00's coming out in an AGP flavor, I won't have to build a new PC. It looks like I can offload everyting to the video card! I look forward to Anandtech's upcoming review for us HTPC users.
Yeah, I'm curious as well, I currently have an x800xl and I'm hoping that its better than that for gaming, then I might have to pick one up and not even need a new PC.
I just wish ATI would let the HDMI audio passthrough PCM instead, that's really dumb of them to only use DTS and DD.
