I know others have posted similar questions and I've tried to research a few of the sites out there: Monoprice, Blue Jeans, HDTV Supply & Best Deal. Some questions:
Particulars of my system (a few whose purchase is imminent*):SONY KDL 32XBR4* [1366 X 768P]
Onkyo TX-SR 605*
TiVo Series 2
Verizon FIOS TV*
The cable runs should be short for connecting all this stuff. They will be all on the same rack. I've found from my existing system that 3' is sometimes a shade short. 6' is plenty.1. AWG - a range was stated for home theater gear of 22 - 28. Does it matter which end of this range?
2. CL2 - I presume this is really only important for people doing in-wall installs.
3. Gold plated connectors - are they that important? (incidentally, it looks as if Gefen does NOT use them on their cables, at least from pics). I've used Monster cable for years and they all have them, but with my upgrade to HiDef, their prices for these cables are too much by far.
4. A REAL newbie query - what are those bulbous cylindrical bulges down near the connectors on both ends of an HDMI cable? Oddly, I see them on some but not all HDMI cables. What gives, some sort of convertor? A necessity?
5. This has always mystified me for years. Is there a difference between fabric jacketed vs. smooth vinyl/acrylic jackets? Is one better than the other or is it aesthetics? Also, what about some HDMI cables with flat or round shafts?
The choices I've narrowed down to are:
Monoprice: #2219 or #2412
BlueJeans: BJC Series 2 HDMI (I like the fact you can buy in 1 ft. increments - nice!)
HDTV Supply: Premium 1080p Round HDMI or the HDMI 720p/1080i
Best Deal: HDMI002 - this last seemed most impressive because of their "locking tab connector." I haven't bought an HDMI cable, but I HOPE I'm not going to have wimpy connection issues. This seemed a nice option.
Any help out there is as always appreciated.
