We had seats about 13' and 19' from the screen. As crazy as it sounds I found myself wanting a bigger screen within a few months.
Well I've moved out of that house and am ready to build my next low budget theater, and I wanted to figure out what screen size to use. Our seating will be close like yours, maybe 11' at most. Do you find that you could go bigger with your screen? I have the wall space and really want to push the biggest size I can, definitely closer than 1.5x, but I don't want to get that nauseous feeling from moving my eyes back and forth either. I'm thinking about going 118" at 11'. Is that insane?
I guess this is a post for the screen section but like I said I stumbled upon your thread.
The other factor that I considered when deciding on the 92" screen was that the projector had to be mounted at a short distance of apx 10' away. From that distance, the maximum size my projector would throw was a 92" image.
Now that all is said and done, I can honestly say the screen is not too big nor too small. I am viewing at exactly 1.5x screen width and any closer or bigger from my current distance would be too much.
And to answer your question, YES, you would be insane to go 118" at 11'.
The only way I could see it is if you went 1080p and watched nothing but 2.35:1 flicks, otherwise nausea might set in......
