Man, you are cheap. I mean, you take a little left over wood and throw something together that looks so clearly as if it were made by a .....

...Come on. I picked up a Middle Atlantic rack on CL and even though it looks perfect, it won't look nearly as good as your rack will when it is stained up! That looks AWESOME! Well done!

My cheapness only goes so far but your right CJ when I get the rest of the cabinets build and stained in there it will really look sharp. I need my dang truck back so I can get some lumber. The other day I made a small haul with my VW Bug and had one guy laugh at me as I was loading it up

{Channeling Hanseian}I don't think they were laughing at the lumber sticking out. Come on, admit it...this is your bug:

I like that trim you did Scott. Maybe I should do the same with mine.

It really is going to make it vary easy to install having the trim attached plus it hides the gap on the sides of the shelves

Scott, the rack looks great! I went the same route. In fact, ours will be very similar when I get around to the trim, etc. There are many places in home theater that you can see and justify the expense, Middle Atlantic racks are not one of them.

Nice job on the rack! I was going to build something cheap, but like carb, fond a good deal on a Slim5 rack on Craigslist (180 for 37u with casters and several shelves, lacing bars, etc. - just needed to add a 4u shelf, and won't need faceplates since it's in the closet). Was worth it to me to have one less thing to do - and got me off the fence on how to proceed.

Scott,

The rack looks great - nice job!
Curious, how deep are the shelves?

Hey Craig

The shelves are 19"1/4 deep and 20"1/2 wide. I plan to keep the back mostly open with some store bought cable management that I can screw to the back. I was even thinking of making a insert for bluray cases that can be popped in if I don't fill all my shelves with equipment.

Great looking rack! Very professional. Wanna build mine?

I would, however, cut a few slots in the middle of each shelf for added ventilation. You need good air circulation under the equipment as well as the top, back, and sides. These modern components get hot!

It's a shame, my company (cable MSO) just sold for scrap metal 3 "damaged" old 42 RU racks. They looked perfect to me, but I'm not picky. Unfortunately my projects and their possible use are not close enough for the wife to approve of 3 racks sitting around, not that I would need 3. They weren't "old" either, 3-4 years at most. Nice black, with some paint scraped off...

Not sure why you guys would care....but I should have thought of Ebaying them.

Nice Rack by the way. I really like the look of it. But like someone said, I will have to add some slots in mine if I copy you.

Yes, it is! I would have put one back in the basement or garage, then turned on two of my friends to the deal. Oh well, next time!

This is oh so true. I scored a 42u MA rack off CL for $150 and it is practically new AND came with the sides!!
yeah, I got a new mid atlantic, still on the pallet and wrapped in plastic for $100. Just need to find cheap shelves soon.
Did you drill the holes for the adjustable shelves or is that something you can buy?
