The CopperFields Cinema - Page 2

That's the cleanest drywall install I've ever seen. From sheet alignment to screw pattern, it's picture perfect. I'm currently finishing the rest of my basement (in hurry-up mode). Compared to your pictures there, it looks like my drywall wall is being hung by monkeys.

Nice deal on your chairs. I have the same in black. I figured a way to connect aura pro bass shakers to the chairs. If you're interested, click here:

I'm planning on one maybe two 12' or 15" subs in the front and a 10" or 12" sub in the back on my riser. I guess I have never really sat through a movie with the bass shakers on a chair so I dont really know if I would like them.

I've got the Aura shakers in my front row, so you'll get to experience them this Saturday.

w00lly,

They turned out pretty fine. I have my receiver turned way up to push them as my gain doesn't seem to be working as intended but the end result is the same .... pretty impressive.
I brought a friend over a couple of weeks ago had him sit in the back row and threw in the Xbox 360 demo for Dirt and fired it up. You should have seen his eyes he couldn't believe it. The entire riser vibrates like you were in a buggy and when you crash you know it.
I can't wait to get the 2 in the front installed the rest of the kinks worked out (the installer are supposed to be coming next friday and then hopefully 2 weeks after that the acoustic engineer will be alone to tweak the system and hook up the feed back destroyers which at this point aren't plugged in.)

I'll let you know when it is all complete but my initial review is 2 thumbs up despite the fact I have to drive the subs to get the desired results (which I'm fine with I'm sure they were designed to put out anyways they are not low end subs).

Your project is coming along nicely I'm impressed with your level of detail. It seems every year the DIY crowd raises the bar - If I ever sell and move south I'll know a few members I contact to see if they were selling their homes just for their HT rooms

Well I got out the blue tape tonight and did a mock up of the actual size of my screen I needed to get a real time feel of just where this big boy is going to end up and how awesome it's going to be

I do not think I have really touched on the screen size. About 4 weeks ago I ordered a 12' footer its a 144" x 61" viewable 2.35:1 SMX screen with the pro-line frame the over all size is 151" x 68"

I think I'm gunna have to lower this thing an inch or two. I will get a real feel for it once I get my riser built. At 24" off the floor the top will come with in a few inchs of my soffet. the screen will be about 22" from the rear wall so I will have to figure out an easy way to get to my main breaker panel if I should ever need too.

What about angling the end of the screen wall so that it covers the panel. Something like

/ -------------------\\

Plus that would give you some hidden room for bass traps. If you make the "\\" part a removable panel you could easily get to the breaker.

The screen wall is going to be about 22" maybe 2' from the back wall so the breaker panel is going to be behind the screen. And I will have about 7" on either side of the screen. I will see how much room I will have once I build the screen wall. I would like to friction fit my screen. I could probably make a hinged panel or a panel held with velcro on that side.

That screen is nice and big I like it ! Your going to be real happy with the SMX I was / still am impressed every time I turn the PJ on in the basement

Quick question W00lly, in post #18, what are the blue tubes for? I am assuming to run the speaker wire through and hook directly into the J-Box. Question, what are these actually called, and where can I get them? I.e if it is from a website, what would I search under. By the way, excellent looking so far.
I don't know what he is using them for specifically, but they look to be for the A/V wiring since you can see bare romex going to the outlet locations.

You can buy that tubing at Home Depot or other big box in the electrical department right next to the gray PVC.

Yes they are for my speaker wires and such I wanted to be able to run the wire after the fact just in case I wanted to run more or if I had a defective wire. I took a hole saw and cut holes into the gang boxs for the threaded ends. There are a ton of ways of running speaker and sub cables this was my solution I am not sure its the best way we will see when I try to run the cables I bought some blue stripe wire pulling string that I will suck through with my shop vac. I tryed a short run and the Vac pulled it really pretty easy

Here is a close up picture. Like BigD said you can get all that stuff at lowes. You can also get them to order the blue conduet in 50' rolls

Hello All

This weekend we had our first HT meet in Omaha. Went to Dkaps place and checked out his theater http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=444639 . I must say Dan has an awesome setup that lit a fire under my AZZ to get moving.

I worked about half day Sunday and a bit tonight. I finished up the soffet framing. I thought a long time on how to go about this and this is what I came up with. I wanted to make it as easy as possible since I do not have a helper. They look pretty flimsy but I assure you I could do pull ups from them I am going to be using 5/8's OSB on the sides and 3/4 on the bottoms I have not decided if I'm going to sheetrock the bottoms or threat with linacoustic and gom. The sides for sure will be sheet rocked

What are everyones thoughts on insulation in the soffets. I plans on using can lights that are non IC rated. Do you think it needs to be stuffed? Or can I get by with stuffing the areas where there are no cans.

framing built on floor first

Then lifted and screwed into place

Rear wall

Front wall

I think I am going to leave the soffet behind the screen wall open and fill it full of some sort of cotton batting for a bass trap

Looking good W00lly. I would stuff them with insulation everywhere including the "cans area"

Hello All

Well I am just about done with the soffets and will post some pictures in the next few days.

We have been looking and tons of carpet samples and have narrowed it down to 2. I like both but thought I would get everyone elses opinion the first is a copper colored sample in keeping with the theme we are having a tough time finding a accent fabric color for the walls with this color

and a gray. with this color we could really use any color on the walls

I see the view count going up but nobody posting there thoughts on my carpet choice's. I am now having second thoughts maybe I should look some more. The more I look at the pattern the more I think I want no pattern. There are just too many choices at the carpet store
post #49 of 1201
Carpet is a bear. I can't never find anything I like/afford. I am in denial on that issue.

That said, of the ones you put up, I like the darkest, gray one best.
Hi W00lly,

I like the grey one, but I am a sucker for grey.

I have the same dilemma with color, or perhaps lack thereof in my theater project. I'm going to use the grey GOM on the side and back walls and black in the front. Ceiling is painted flat grey and the carpet is well, grey. But I found a grey carpet with some red/purplish dots in it. Figured that will give the room at least a little color. I may also get some redish seats later, but I haven't quite decided on that just yet.

I like the dark grey but the lighter grey is ok too.

If you dont mind, where did you find the carpets you were looking at or the mfg. and style number. I kind of like both and wouldn't mind looking at them a little closer.

Thanks
