Is Universal Sports is FiOS? It's being dropped by WSKY at midnight 12/31... ONLY DirecTV carries it nationally...
Yep - Fios has it.

Turns out the problem with USA HD and SyFy HD are happening at the VHO in Richmond as well, so they are now working to figure out the problem.

They recorded Royal Pains on USA last week and I sent them a list of when I saw the picture problems and they saw the same thing.

Wow... many kudos to you! If you're seeing it AND "they" are seeing it, how many others are seeing it???

Decided to stay with VZ?
Yep, staying with Verizon. Since the problem is being seen at the hub, my guess is that everybody in Hampton Roads (perhaps Richmond too) is seeing it. People just aren't complaining because it is really only for a second or two when it happens, so it is probably just written off as a "blip" in the signal. But, since the audio/video never actually goes out I knew it had to be something with the source feed.

Keep us updated!

Finally got an update yesterday. They are still seeing the problem but have not yet been able to find the root cause. Still exploring possibilities.

Heard from Verizon today. They traced the USA HD issue back to the provider and have notified them of the issue. Now to get SyFy HD fixed and I will be a happy FiOSer again.

What about FOOD?
To be honest, the FOOD problem is so minor compared to USA and SyFy that it wasn't worth trying to get it fixed also.

However, rumor is that there is a big in IMG 1.9 that is causing lots of pixelation, 1.91 will fix that -- 2Q2012. That may fix the Food issue on its own.

Got another update. NBC Universal is over-compressing the USA / SyFy / Bravo feed they are sending Vz (now being sent so all 3 can fit into one QAM). They have been notified but have responded that no other provider has complained. So, Vz has to convince them that it is an issue and keep work on getting it fixed.

I'm thinking now that this over compression, combined with the 1.9 PQ issues is making the channels look like crap.....

I thought it was based on how many feeds are crammed into one satellite transponder slot which is then beamed to cable/IPTV/satellite headends. Leasing the space is expensive so the more you get in one slot saves broadcasters/networks money.
Yep, and the more they do this the less FiOS PQ advantage can be seen.

I've started resorting to buying USA and SyFy shows on iTunes now. I really can't deal with the PQ issues.

PQ is better???
Yep, much better. All 720p downloads.
I'm holding out hope that they may have just fixed the problem. USA, SyFy, and Bravo all 3 went out at the same time for about a minute. Will see what happens with the PQ.

Have followed FiOS since it first came in along Great Neck Road, but just couldn't get around the battery Vs. POTS.
Am using COX for digital cable and VZ for DSL.
However, my DSL randomly fails and requires extraordinary efforts from ALCON to get back up and running, and takes me away from by online news editing job.
Any way, they straw hit hit camel's back this past week.
Am looking in a more detailed manor, and researching the best deals available to me. Came across this: FiOS TV: Getting Started With Interactive Media Guide 1.9 ( http://forums.verizon.com/vrzn/attac...19/1989/2/FiOS )
So, is 1.9 available in VB? 1.9.1?
Have two HDTV and 3 SDTV. Will probably be happy with SD box for 2 of the SDTV and perhaps HD box for the other
I am still having trouble deciding whether I want the whole DVR plus one regular, or just get two DVR which is what I have with COX. The cited document by a VZ tech seems to imply that the two standard DVR can now see each other via multi-hub. Also wantto be able to add an additional eSATA storage drive. Any experience with either?
I would really like to get my ducks in a row before I go visit the folks at Willis Wayside, as I have not always been impressed with their technical input. So any thoughts/advice would be appreciated
TIA

Starring - IMG 1.9 is in VB. 1.91 is presumably a few weeks away.

There are no SD boxes anymore, just HD. They do have digital adapters for $3 or $4 a month, but they only tune channels, no guide.

DVRs can now see each other, so you can view recordings from one on any others in the house. As you referenced, this is called multi-hub. However, you must pay for the multiroom DVR service for this to work. The mrdvr is the same box as the regular dvr, they just remotely enable the service.

I have 3 DVRs with multiroom service and an HD box. Have all channels, digital voice, and 35/35 internet. Total cost is $200 a month.

Only really want full coverage in the kitchen, so that it could go to the same channels as the nearby famlly room. The other two are seldom used, so only want to be able to get up to about channel 100

I can get by with 5/15, and whatever comes equivalent to freedom essentials for the phone, and the Extreme HD for the TV

Thanks much

Digital adapters will tune any SD channel you subscribe to, so should work well for you. I think 25/25 is the slowest speed they offer with Triple Play bundles.

I'm looking at an Extreme Triple Play $94.99. with 25/25 and digital voice, but less the hardware and fees.
If I understand what you said, hardware would be:
Home Media DVR: $19.99
Standard DVR $15.99
HD Box SDTV $9.99
2 adapters @3.99 $7.98
Total $53.96
Does the one Home Media DVR give me the ability to talk to the other DVR?
I'm estimating fees/taxes at about $20.00
which would give me a total cost in the vicinity of $168.95
My combined COX/VZ including phone, DSL and HDTV service with 2 DVR is $238.47.
Looks good to me. Guess I will live with the battery and the fact I can't splice FiOS like I can POTS in the event a(nother) tree takes out the line during a storm.
