COX has already told me that I can get just internet/HDTV via cable.
I'm not set up that way, but I could make it so.

In that situation I THINK the installer would leave the NID alone and just install the data and video.

wow-busy day yesterday but to finally answer your ?

overall it went quite well. since i already had phone/internet it took the tech about 2 1/2 hrs. to install the splitter(secured under the ONT) run coax into my attic & tap into my existing video cables in my house. boxes initialized & it was done!

ONE problem-no HD nationals!!! had local digitals & HD premiums(HBO,et. al.) but no HDNet or MHD & the rest. this surprised the tech. & everyone i spoke with at Encore who tried to fix the problem.

well it WAS fixed-eventually. 1st observation in dealing with Vz-things get fixed quickly WHEN you get hold of a CSR or support tech that knows what they're doing.
the bad news-that won't likely happen on the 1st try!!!! and unfortunately the people who don't know what they're doing really DON'T.

I'm not bashing Vz-it just amazes me that after so much run-around(too much to go into) the problem got solved in less than 5 min. once it was brought to the attention of an experienced support rep.

2nd observation for those considering FiOS-order by phone. and make sure if you want HD that you specifically order the HD nationals. no, they don't charge extra but Vz treats them as a separate programming pkg. the online order page did not, IMO, make this clear.

as for the service-love it so far. HD PQ is subtly but noticeably better-punchier, for lack of a better word-than D*. SD PQ marginally better on my HD display but quite better on my kitchen TV(SD 480i CRT). there it looks like the D* of old.

due to other issues haven't played with the service as much as I would like-no VOD or PPV yet. more impressions as I become familiar with my new set-up.

so far tho-very pleased.

Thanks, but my question was more of the "will VZ permit such an installation" - not how will they go about it, i.e. "is VZ going to insist that they become the phone provider too"

Yes, it is possible, however based on information from other forums, they require you put a credit card on file and it automatically gets charged each month.

DATA ONLY ORDERS MUST BE PUT ON A CREDIT CARD

DATA AND TV CAN BE BILLED MONTHLY,
I THINK TV ONLY CAN BE BILLED MONTHLY BUT I'M NOT SURE,

AND OF COURSE VOICE ONLY IS BILLED MONTHLY,

I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT DATA ONLY ORDER'S MUST BE PUT ON A CREDIT CARD, I GUESS TO INSURE THE YEAR AGREEMENT, I DON'T KNOW.

Data is the only service that required an agreement, VOICE AND FiOS TV can be removed at any time, but if you currently have any triple or double play bundles you will no longer receive the credits.

if any one doesn't believe that FIOS 30/5 is $54 a month in VA there's your proof.
here are some old speed tests from the kiosk

NORFOLK, NEBRASKA

SOMEWHERE IN GERMANY

NORFOLK, NEBRASKA (WIRELESS)

and i didn't save any but when testing the Athens, Greece or the Portland, Oregon server the result was still 30/3.x .
when testing the Portland server the latency was always in the low 90's and to Athens the latency was in the 140's -150.

Do you have any more insight on the FiOS buildout from the PA CO? Specifically, Seaboard Road (South)? PM me if needed...

Wow, that's only $5 more than I pay for 15/2. Too bad I'm already locked into the Triple Play....

I don't doubt it. I've had 30/5 at that price since the git-go. It is a fantastic deal. I tell people that, but they usually don't believe me. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it.

BTW Robert I have to say FiOS TV & the JVC xxxFN97's are a very happy marriage!

overall the PQ in SD & HD is a small but noticeable improvement over D*-i'm guessing lack of compression artifacts. most evident on graphics & animation(Adult Swim on Cartoon Network). now your PQ may well be better than mine was as I had the older Samsung D* box(TS160).

and of course chs with marginal signal quality still look-well marginal(at best). the obviously local-produced segments on the Pentagon ch are a good example.

Their analog and digital signal was off the air. The SD fiber feed to Cox, DirecTV and FiOS was OK...

Now that the Lynnhaven Kiosk has gone away, and a bit of time has passed, what is the status of the "storefront" which was going to open before the Kiosk closed.
If I want to sit down and talk my installation, who do I have, where, besides the marketeers on POTS or my DSL.
Is Roy finally going to break down and go FiOS?
SOON!!!

I still have no information on when the Vz EXPERIENCE STORE is coming down here. Here is a video
for those that didn't see it in the other post.

The newest rumor is that VIDEO has been launched in Norfolk, or OCEANVIEW c/o. will have more updates on this by Tuesday.

Has anyone else gotten the new IPG? My 2 STBs were updated somewhere around 4:00 this morning, but my DVR still has the old guide. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

The new interface and features are pretty nice BTW. Now hopefully they will make some future programming changes that address the functionality of the DVR!
Yeah, I got the new guide this morning.
Just checked at home...looks like my DVR updated around 9:00, so apparently all the boxes might not update at the same time.

Hilltopsailor also reported getting the new IMG(in the Norfolk HDTV thread).

so far 3 for sure in VB. I'm checking my set-up as soon as I get offline.

I got the new IMG!!! so far likin' it!!!!

anyone else in N.N.?

PQ seems unaffected on SD chs. though it also seems 4:3 override is gone. possible the new software also improved the Moto box's scaler?

looked briefly at the "Verizon Market" or whatever the online store is called. just what I don't need-another far-too-easy way to buy stuff I don't need.

seriously tho the guide looks like a winner. reminds me a little of the Time-Warner NYC guide only better!!!!

I have now tested all 3 of my STB's. 2 work OK, but the 'HD only' does not (it was there for a while and then disappeared). I called the 'IMG Help Line' number from the TV screen on one of the sets that works and they couldn't help me with it so they transferred me to the regular 'FiOS Help Line'. They knew about the problem and told me they were still trying to figure out what was wrong. There is a 'Group Ticket' on this problem and they added my name to it. If anyone else also has this problem they need to call and add their name to this ticket (no ticket number given). No ETR on the fix. I will post when I find out anything more. I now see why VZ didn't roll the IMG out to everyone at once.
Both DVRs, the SD-STB, and HD-STB are all working. New IMG must have been delivered sometime this morning.

Still no signal on that one STB. I just got off the phone with a CSR who told me that my C/O will be making an update at 11 PM tonight. They are waiting until after Prime Time in case it affects lots of sets. Looks like a local problem at my C/O from what they are telling me. We shall see.
sorry to hear it's still not resolved.

one correction-noticed the same lag in changing from an SD ch to an HD ch so it looks like the 4:3 override setting is still there. must be the default because the output res. is set at 1080i(from the STB menu-no more turning off the box & then pressing the MENU button)

To change the 4:3 override setting you have to unplug the box, plug it back in, and when you see the dashes on the front of the box hit menu on the remote. That should bring up the old settings screen.

Hilltop my gut is tellin' me a new HD box may be in your future. hope it gets fixed soon.

Edit: Hilltop you were one of the 1st-if not THE 1st-to get TV in this market. and you seem to be the only one to have a failed install. do you perhaps have an older box? mine was brand-new out of the plastic. model # is QIP6416-2. is yours any different?
