Built In HDTV Tuner - Basic Cable Receiving Premium Channels

First post and definitely a newbie, however I did substantial research prior to this post looking for an answer to my question. I recently purchased a Pioneer Plasma with built-in HDTV tuner. Although I utilize Direct TV I have cable internet service and decided to also use the auto-program feature for the basic cable service. Surprisingly the turner auto tuned 80 HD channels with all the music stations and the vast majority of the premium channel with only coaxial cable and no cable box. Many stations stay on all the time while others will either freeze up half way through a movie or fast forward and even sometimes rewind and start over. Can anyone help with information on how to preserve the HD programming on a constant basis or explain why this process takes place. Thanks in advance.

For the channels that freeze up, rewind and/or start over, they are On-Demand channels that someone else on your local node is viewing, cable companies tend not to encrypt them. Nothing you can do to preserve them, you are at the mercy of your neighbors.

For any fixed premium channels you get, your cable company isn't encrypting those yet either but they may in the future, typically cable companies only offer locals unencrypted, if you are getting more then that, enjoy it while you can.

Wish I could start over but there is no control over it. The On-Demand shows just seem to fill a spot on a random channel from 110-101 through 113-112. Many times a channel will be blank on the first past but will have a premium station on when you scroll back through this series of channels. I assumed the HDTV tuner picked up the channels on auto programming and the channels later received a random signal to scramble the feed. Interestingly, whenever a movie is lost, another movie will fill the spot on the same channel very shortly but not necessarily at it's beginning. Puzzling?

Start what over? The On-Demand programs? These programs are being purchased and controlled by your neighbors. You are simply viewing them.

No, your integrated QAM tuner is just finding all of the available unencrypted (unscrambled) QAM channels. BTW, most On-Demand channels are SD, not HD. If your cable system offers OnDemand HD then only that programming is actually HD.

Look up Switched Video - that's what you're seeing.
