Intel E6750?

With a big cost reduction coming later on this month I am looking at the E6750 for my rebuilt HTPC.

Is this a good choice or are some of the other Intel processors better? I am not concerned about overclocking (do not know how).

Very nice processor; I have its older brother, the E6700, and am thrilled with performance. Yours should be a bit better since it will run at 1333 FSB instead of 1067. It will run the highest bitrate 1080p Blu-ray AVC without flinching and without hardware acceleration; IMO it sits at the cusp of "plenty of power" and "overkill" for home theater. There are some HTPC applications where the E68x0 or a quad-core will perform better (encoding/transcoding), but for playback and other normal use it runs cool, quiet, and relatively cheap.

Thanks for the response. I have finally nailed down the first piece of my upgraded HTPC. Now I have to build around this with a motherboard next and then the memory.

By "overkill for HTPC" will it work for some gaming?

It will work great for gaming. It's just not going to win the contest, because there's the E68x0 and the Q-series that beat it. Although when you get to that level, your graphics card is generally the limiter.

The small amount of gaming I will be doing I do not need the faster ones. The graphic card is another item I am researching.
