My 1270 is passing 1080p out of a VP50, into my Runco; admittedly, it isn't a 9" monster, so the fact that I'm exceeding the bandwidth of my pj means I could indeed be masking some flaws. With that cavaet, it looks pretty dang good to me - 1271 is supposed to have a hair more bandwidth; if you can find one, the PC3000 also works, and is even better. But as long as you use the RGBHV output of the 1270 switcher, it is pretty close, spec wise; also rock stable, and a no-brainer to setup. I'm driving a good 35' RGBHV cable from the switcher to the pj, and I'm not seeing any degradation compared to not having the switcher. But I'm only running a lowly PG9x clone - you'd have to check with someone who had a 9" for the final gospel.
From what I've heard and read here, the NEC switchers are higher bandwidth - but then I think you're back to waiting for a Moome card.
You are more than welcome to check mine out, next time you're in Iowa. (only saying that cuz I get out to Manitou once or twice a year - and I've been told the road goes both ways.
